Newbie question on room category

Just bought into DVC and our first trip home will be in October at BLT. In the past when reserving regular rooms through CRO we'd just reserve the base room view (garden) and then check for upgrades when we checked in (got an upgraded category about half the time - up to a lagoon view at GF). Do you ever get room view upgrades with DVC? I don't know if they're more strict about reserving according to the exact room category - so that when all of the garden view rooms are reserved, you can't get a GV and have to reserve a water view. Though I guess if the resort wasn't full and they have upgraded room views available and unoccupied they could give that to you.

Does that make sense?

Thanks

There are very few (almost never) upgrades for DVC reservations. Only if there was something wrong with the room you booked and they had no others in that exact same category to put you in.

Even if they have a room available as you described, they won't put you in it unless they have to as described above.

Many WDW resorts overbook their cheapest room category to attract reservations and then do upgrades for some. DVC does not do that, they only book the rooms they have. Plus DVC is usually close to 100% occupied, which means there are no rooms to move.

Sorry, you'll get what you book. Seldom if ever do DVC members get upgrades when they book a reservation on points. So if you want that MK view at BLT, you'll need to reserve that.

Thanks for the replies. I thought this was how DVC worked, but wasn't sure. We never counted on or expected the upgrades when booking regular rooms - it was just a bonus if we got it. The view isn't really that important to us - we rarely look out the window unless it's to see if it's sunny out. we'd rather have a room close to where we need to go and/or on the quiet side.
