Newbie question about reservation and wait list...

Hi Everyone,

I just called DVC and my name and contract are now in the system (it only took them two days from when the papers where submitted to when I called!). I have just banked my 2010 points to use for next year (UY Feb @ OKW).

I am getting ready to make my first reservation and I have a question. I would like to book a 7 night trip with the first 5 nights at OKW and then the last 2 nights at BLT. I will be using up all of my 2010 banked points and some of my 2011 points for this reservation.

If I can't get the 2 nights at BLT, how should I make the reservation(s)?

1) Should I book the full 7 nights at OKW and then be put on the waitlist for 2 nights at BLT (just in case that BLT never comes thru)?

2) Book 5 nights at OKW and then waitlist for the 2 at BLT (and if the 2 at BLT don't come thru relatively soon, I can hopefully book 2 more nights at OKW)?

3) Any other suggestions/advice?

If I do option #1, and the waitlist comes thru, then what happens to the "extra" points I will get back from changing my OKW down from 7 nights to 5? Do they get put back into my 2011 UY points (and if so, can I bank them, assuming they are 2011 points, to 2012)?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Evan

I would do #1. I don't know what you mean about getting points back though. You would waitlist for the 2 nights you want at BLT - you don't use any points to do the waitlist.

If it comes through, they will switch those OKW days to BLT days and use the same points or take more from your account if needed. You would only get points back if BLT was less points than OKW, which I don't think it is - unless there is a difference in room size or something. If that was the case, they go back to the use year where they started.

(BTW - your 2010 banked points are effectively 2011 points now, so any points returned would go back to the 2011 UY).

I agree, book the entire trip at OKW and then WL BLT if it is not available. It is better to know you have the rooms then to only book 5 nights and hope something comes through.

As PP mentioned, if the WL is filled, they will cancel the two nights at OKW (returning those points to your account) and then re-using those same points (more if needed) to fill the BLT reservation.

You always want to book the entire time period you want to stay, IMHO.

I don't know if you are driving or flying, but in order to use ff miles or to purchase affordable tickets you don't want to change the dates of travel.

Your waitlist may not come through until a few weeks before, so be patient and keep hoping!

Thanks for all the replies and advice.

Just to make sure I understand this correctly, if I book all 7 nights at OKW and waitlist the last two nights for BLT, if BLT comes thru, then Disney will automatically cancel the last nights at OKW for the 2 nights at BLT? There is nothing I will need to do?

Thanks again,

Evan

That is correct. Just keep checking the web site to see if it has come through yet.

Since this is your first reservation, is OKW your home resort? And are you making the reservation at the 11 month mark? Or at the 7 month or less mark?

If you are using the 11 month home resort advantage, you will not be able to book at two resorts. You can only book at your home resort.

If you are booking at 7 months, then I agree with the others. If the dates are not available for BLT. Book the entire 7 days and WL the two for BLT.
