I hope this is the correct board to put this on since it deals with Disney lodging.

I'm planning my first trip and have never been before but I want to rent points for an Epcot area resort. I have 2 questions.

1. What is a normal payment policy? Do most people pay 1/2 up front and the rest about a month before the trip? The DVC owner can't cancel your reservation once they have all your money can they?

2. What if you do pay it all before the trip and then an extreme emergency comes up like illness or a freak hospitalization? This is my nightmare since we can't reschedule since DH is in grad school and the week we are going is his semester break.

Could you get your money back or would the DVC owner be penalized somehow? I would want us both protected.

Thanks for any insight!

You will get a better response on the DVC Board. On the Rent/Trade Board there is a FAQ at the top of the list that may help to clear up your questions.

1. Your agreement is between you and the member, not you and Disney. The member can do anything they want, as can you. Most require a payment the day the reservation is made and then full payment at least 30 days before. If it is less than 30 days before, you probably will have to pay in full. The member loses the right to make a normal reservation with those points if they need to cancel less than 30 days out. They can only make a reservation 60 days or less out.

2. Again, the agreement is between you and the member. Sometimes Member Services will allow a "one in a lifetime" chance to put those points back, but if they borrowed the points from their next year, they can't put them back into that year.

Most members who rent come up with some sort of contract.

Me????? I use my points myself and never rent a reservation out.

Go to the DVC boards!

But to answer your second question (and we rented points from a member in Dec.)---you CAN reschedule your trip, but once that 11-or 6-month ressie window opens, you might not be able to get the dates you want. So you need to be flexible, and I think your rescheduled dates must be within 6 months of original dates--and that all has to do with the DVC dates that govern the owner.
