Newbie Points Question..

OK, just made it through ROFR for 120 pts at Saratoga Springs. The contract we bought has 120 of the 08 points available now (June use year) and all of 09 will be available, so we'll have 240 POINTS to use after June of 09. Is that right?

We want to take my parents and my in-laws (yes, it will be crowded with 8 of us in a 2 bedroom, I'll ask for a dedicated.) during last 2 weeks of August 09 for a Sunday night through Friday night stay (6 nights). If I look at the charts, that would be 31+31+31+31+31+65 = 220 POINTS TOTAL. Am I right?

There's nothing weird out there that says I can't use the 08 points in 09 is there? I'll be OK, right??

You can use those 120 points from June 08 in Aug 2009 as long as you bank those points into your 2009 use year, and you must do that banking by January 31, 2009. You will also be able to use your June 2009 points for the Aug 2009 trip. Your point count for Aug 09 is correct as long as trip begins after Aug 15.

Don't forget your other options.

If you go in September, it'll be fewer points.

If you go in early August, it'll be more points.

If you go to a different resort, the points will be different. You might consider going to OKW instead of SSR. It'll be fewer points, and the villa will be a lot larger.

I'd love to go in Sept/Oct, but kids have school. Therefore the late August date works good for us.

I'm sure I'll stay at OKW some day, but first I'd like to go to our home resort. Also, don't I have a better shot at getting at dedicated 2 bedroom at the 11 month window rather than waiting until the 7 month window? Of course, I might be extrapolating the fanatacism of making ADRs (OMG, it's 180 days out I have to call in a 7am to make sure I get that Le Cellier reservation) to the making of DVC reservations (especially now with the new booking requirement)?

If I understood this correctly, you just received your June 08 point allocation of 120 pts. Next June you will receive another set of 120. You want to you both sets of points to cover a trip in August 09.

Yes this will work, but remember to bank your points from June 08. Otherwise they won't be available to you in the August 09 time frame.
