hey to all, I am planning west coast honeymoon for august 2011.
We are planning to have 7days in Las Vegas
then drive on to Yosemite - staying out side the park most probably in Oakhurst,
We are looking to have a stop over between vegas and yosemite but no sure where ???? ideas welcome
Plan to spean 3-4day in Yosemite then drive on to SF - looking to spend 4-5days here then we are a little stuck on what to do next.
My thought was to drive down coast to LA - are there are stop offs worth staying over at - maybe end up a 2-3days in anaheim then fly out lax

thought on intineary welcome
thanks
Lynsey

I can’t think of a thing to see (other than amazing desert and
then mountain scenery) between Vegas and Yosemite. I’ve driven it
twice - parts are unbelivably beautiful but it’s really just a
straight four hour drive.

On your way from SF there are two must stop places: Monterey and
Santa Barbara. A lot to do in SB; you could easily spend two or
three days there - it’s very romantic. The Monterey/Carmel area
would make a nice day stop or even an overnighter. A slow journey
with plenty of stopping between Monterey and San Luis Obispo might
be something you would enjoy. Stopping at Big Sur, San Simeon,
Cambria (my GF and I always spend the night there) and Morro Bay
is, in my opinion, a must. Some of the most beautiful coastline in
the world.

I agree Monterey and Carmel. I am celebrating new years in monterey. Just so beautiful. It wont dissapoint you. Congrats

Do you have something planned to fill each day? I honesly have been many times and wouldn't stay more than 3.

On the way to Yosemite maybe stop by mammoth lakes, it might have a summer deal, or by Mono Lake.

If you are staying near Oakhurst, check out the Tenaya Lodge. It is literally 10 minutes from the South park entrance and a beautiful place to stay, especially for a honeymoon.

Check out my trip report below for info on Yosemite and Monterey.

That was my first impression, too...7 days in Vegas seems like overkill unless you are both REALLY into gambling and the nightlife/clubbing (or you plan on staying in your room the whole time!). :rotfl: There's really not much else to do there. Not to mention, anywhere off the strip is fantastically ugly (not that the strip is pretty, but its at least interesting) (sorry, LVers!). :rolleyes1

I'd much rather spend more time in Cali.

For a honeymoon couple, I also recommend the couples spa at the South Coast. My wife & I did our last anniversary in Vegas, and did the "Private Party" package at the spa. It was heavenly, delightful - and a bit naughty. We loved it.

Well, there's always Red Rocks Canyon and Valley of Fire, both of which are beautiful. But yeah, I'd recommend more time in California. Monterey and the Big Sur coast, in particular. But I may be slightly biased :rolleyes1
