Newbie Observation....Are people obsessing abit too much about view ?

I can certainly understand paying a bit extra for view if you are in resort that has balconies, but for all the moderate resorts with no balconies, I think it is a waste of money. In these resorts, you can hardly see anything out the windows anyway, and really, how much time does one spend sitting in one's room looking out the window?

Actually my favorite is this woman at the BW. She wanted the clown at the pool covered with a tarp, because it scared her child. Management finally moved her to the Inn side so she would not see it out her window. :sad2:

Sounds like one of those over the top room requests from the other thread....
Why are there some people who think they are the center of everything??? There are billions of us on this planet.

ROFL :rotfl2: I think now I've heard it all! I can imagine how happy all the other guests would be to have the pool slide covered with a tarp. Priceless. Thanks Sammie. I needed a chuckle.

Glad to ablige. I have some interesting conversations over drinks with friends that work at Disney about some of the things that happen involving guests.

Hmmm....I was intrigued by this thread.

I didn't realize "view" really meant "location" at CBR- on my very first trip to see the Mouse, I ended up with a "view" that was of a courtyard- fine by me- but a walk that required triatholon training before checking in.

So....on our second trip I read up on DIS and Passporter, and Unofficial Guide and TourGuide Mike. I got myself a King, Water view- 3rd floor- every morning I walked outside and leaned on the railing and enjoyed watching boats travel up to Boatwrights. In the evening the gas lamps lined the trail that went up to Riverside, people walking, the horse and carriages went RIGHT under our room- the water was peaceful. It MADE my vacation. My DH is one of those- "hey we're at WDW, gimmie a room with a door that locks and a pillow and Im happy" I on the other hand am very affected by views, surroundings and room location. So why not ask questions from those who have experience???

Im going to CR for the first time this time, and staying in a Wing Room- since I cant get a feel for if "parking lot view" also means "view of castle" I figure view of Bay Lake- whatever, Im more fixated on if I would be happier being close to the MK trail or to the tower....Sooooo......I like asking advice from those with experience- if you think I am obsessive- don't read my post. :(

I am all about folks being happy on their expensive vacation (a vacation that costs me $3,000 for 2 adults for 10 days is expensive to me)

Happy Planning!!!

The only hotel at Disney where I could understand paying extra for a view would be the AKL b/c you would get to see animals from your balcony. That would be awesome and is why we paid the extra money for that on our honeymoon.

But at the moderates? You enter your room from the outside so your main view will forver be of a cement walkway and a railing, with the view in the background. I can't see how a view could break someone's trip at a moderate or value b/c it's not an unobstructed view to begin with.

So I totally agree with zdad on this. Why pay extra for a view? The best part of a vacation is getting OUT of your room no matter what! If you enjoy relaxing thats what Hammocks are for! Or the pool bar or lounge chairs. For people like my husband and I who love to run around on vacations, thats what the parks are for! :)

The only other time I can see paying extra for a room is if you have a large number of people going and getting one deluxe sized room is cheaper than 2 regular rooms, or ifyou want a king sized bed. At the CBR a king sized bed is more expensive for some odd reason but we paid that b/c my husband is a "I will spread out all over the bed and need my room" type of person! :)

The problem with paying for a view, is you often don't get what you pay for. Not every Savannah view room at he AKL has a great view of the animals.Sometimes there is a tree in the way, or you are in a particular spot that dosen't attract alot of animals, etc. Very often people will complain that the view they paid for did not meet up to their expectations. If the hotel is full you are stuck. It would bother me more to pay $70 more per night for a better view and still not get it.

As long as I'm not overlooking rooftops or dumpsters I really don't care. But if I'm going to pay extra for something like lagoon view at the Poly or GF then I want my money's worth. :)

I'm with you on this one! I only would worry about a view if I paid for it also. Just about any room or view will do for me at the Poly!

BTW, I love the that picture of you and your family enjoying yourselfs at my favorite place to eat at WDW!! OHANNA's!! :cool1:

We're going to AKL in May and I can not bring myself to pay for savannah view. I've heard you don't always see the animals, and I know I'd rather be down in the observation area looking at them. :) I would not want a pool view because I'd imagine the closer you are to the pool, the more noisy it is...

But really, I'm pretty much happy anywhere.

The *best* view at AKL is a savannah view from anywhere after you just got a free upgrade from the standard view. ;) I was really happy with that one! I'll add that we had that view with 2 kids ages 5 yrs old and the other was 20 months old and we did spend a fair amount of time watching the animals. And I agree that those with little kids might spend more time in the room while kids are taking naps and such. That makes a view more worth it...at least having a balcony.

Eyore4Ever149 - if you booked a standard view at CR for the wings there are 2 types (the names escape me now) but one is the standard wing parking lot view and one is the water view. Make sure you're booked for the water view if that is what you want! I know I have the parking lot booked. I will be very happy to be looking at my car just cause I want to finally stay at a monorail resort.
