I'm a simple guy. There are only a few things I wouldn't like in a vacation room view.

1. The sight of my neighbors back yards and the dang yapping dog.

2. A view a of a grassy lawn......that I have to mow later in the week.

3. The dumpsters.

After that it's all good. Pick your experience and immerse yourself in it. Don't try and hide from it. A WDW vacation is a trip to a fantasy land. I want that for the entire experience. Ok, I paid a buck or two to eliminate item #3, the rest are out the minute I leave PA.

We picked WL Specifically for the atmosphere. We get a view, great, if not, ok too. Lots to do in that lodge. I want to be in the hobby horse race at Whispering Canyon. I want to sip coffee in the lobby from my $11.99 mug. I dont' plan to be in the room a whole bunch. Actually, the view I'll have most of the time from my room is the backside of my eyelids.

Everybody at this site has energized me for this trip and we're still 99 days away. :bounce: Thanks for all your insights. Let's hear more about the fun !!!

Are you asking why do people pay extra for good views, versus the standard view? I think it depends on the resort. I'm paying extra for the savannah view at AKL b/c I've never been there before and I want to see the animals. I don't know if i'll ever be able to stay at the AKL again, so I want a savannah view room.

Wouldn't you be just the tiniest bit disappointed if you open your curtain at your room at WL and have a view of the loading/unloading area for trucks?

I'm going to make sure that I have a great view from my room because I am paying a crap load of money to stay at AKL. If I didn't care about the view, I'd stay off site.

You make good points. I guess I'm just sayin' that the view seems to make or break to vacation for some posters, and that's what confuses me.

The preferred buildings at the values and CBR have nothing to do with views, they're all about proximity to the food court, main pool and sometimes the bus stops.

AKL has the animals, which makes the view important.

Anywhere else, I personally couldn't care less about the view. I've had some great views and some parking lots, some service roads, etc. Never got dumpsters. I'm not a "sit and look at the view" person unless I'm in the AKL savannah room, and I'm usually not even in the room.

There are others, however, who really enjoy looking at a view.

As long as I'm not overlooking rooftops or dumpsters I really don't care. But if I'm going to pay extra for something like lagoon view at the Poly or GF then I want my money's worth. :)

I can certainly understand paying a bit extra for view if you are in resort that has balconies, but for all the moderate resorts with no balconies, I think it is a waste of money. In these resorts, you can hardly see anything out the windows anyway, and really, how much time does one spend sitting in one's room looking out the window?

Gee, that was almost rude.

I agree, that at the moderates, paying extra for view makes little sense to me. However, at the Deluxe resorts where there is a balcony, another story. Especially if you, like me, have a toddler that needs to come back in the afternoon for a nap. I can sit on the balcony and sip pop from my $11.99 mug and enjoy the view while I read a book and relax. With four kids, those moments alone are far and few between and I want to really enjoy them while I can. :cloud9:

We stayed at POFQ, and the only thing I was worried about was getting a view looking at the parking lot, and guess what we got - yep, a parking lot view, but you know what? I would request that room again in a heartbeat.

We were on the third floor, and off the main flow of foot traffic, so the only person I saw pass our room the entire week was a hotel employee... We had a corner room (king bed), so I could get up in the morning, and sit at the table with the blinds on one of the windows open so I could have enough light to read by, while hubby slept. We were close to the bus stop, and close to the cafeteria (the two most important things for us). The stairs were right outside our door (but once again never had any noise from them).

There were enough trees so although you could see the parking lot it wasn't a big deal. I agree if you are going for a Deluxe the view matters more, but I will never worry about my view again - but I'll always request a quiet room (I phoned the day before to confirm my reservation, and asked at that time if it was possible to get a room in a quieter area).

What a wonderful post. In the sea of nonsense and flames on this forum, it's nice to see someone who it entirely sensible! Thanks for that.

We've been lucky enough to have a view of the fireworks at MK from our room on our 2 visits to the WL. During the day though, our woods view room actually exposed us to a service road and the parking lot if we looked in that direction. Of course, we weren't sitting on our balcony all day anyway, so it really didn't matter. And it wouldn't have mattered much if we couldn't see those fireworks every night either, but it was nice when we were there to enjoy it.

I can see the value of the savannah view at AKL, but if I got a great one anywhere else that would just be icing on the cake. There is just so much more to enjoy at the resorts IMO that a good/bad view isn't going to make or break any trip of mine.

We may be in the minority on this one...we do pay extra at the moderates to avoid the "parking lot" view. ;)

I certainly didn't intend for it to be rude. Let me rephrase it:

When in disney, I pay lots of extra money because I want a great view when I am in my room (or on the balcony) relaxing after a long day at the park. On the other hand, when we go to the outerbanks, my relaxing is done on the beach, so we stay at a days inn, the view doesn't matter at that hotel because it is an economy hotel.

If I am paying a lot of money, I want to make sure I get what I paid for.

If I offended anyone, I am sorry.

Honey, you did not offend me... I read your reply and kind of thought you were "barking" at the newbie for his/her question. I am glad you did not mean it that way. Tone is so hard to detect in writing. :love2: My apologies for the misunderstanding.

I understand about getting what you pay for. Especially when we pay a few months mortgage to visit WDW. And as some of us Texans would say...that ain't cheap.:teeth:

I'm not offended by your post, but thought I'd warn you that not all savannah view rooms have great views. Some view the people pens, and from some savannah view rooms you can even see the parking lot off in the distance.

I changed my ressie from BC std view, to YC water view (at the great AP
discount :cheer2: ) because it was not a given to have a usable balcony at the BC, and I am looking forward to a glass of vino sitting on my balcony in the evenings.. :cloud9:
the view part will just make it a little sweeter....

I loved being able to go out on the balcony in the mornings at the YC and read the newspaper that they left outside our door. My DH and DS's sleep later than I do, and I felt as though I could enjoy an hour of my morning without turning a light on to read inside the room. It was also during the flower and garden festival, and I watched the gardeners changing out the flowers in the area between the boardwalk side of the YC and the walkway. The next visit to the YC, we had a parking lot view, and I didn't even bother going out with the paper, since it was right over the valet area at the curb. So the view can make a big difference, depending on what you plan to do in your downtime! :flower:

Yes I think so. Granted I haven't ever stayed at AKL before but I'm not in my room enough to complain about a view.

I might be new to this board, but I've certainly been around some other Disney boards for a few years, and I think I understand what zdad meant in his post. When I stay at WL, I love overlooking the woods while relaxing on my balcony, same for AKL. But we've all read these incredibly ridiculous questions about which room should I get, which view, which building, which floor, which wing of the building, which specific room number should I request, not to mention how to get upgraded without paying for it. For a destination where most of your time is spent outside of your room, it amazes me how anal people can become about their room location.
