Newbie needs lots of help

My DH and I are thinking of buying a TT
I have no clue where to start our what I need, any one willing to give me some advice.
I have been reading every peice of information on camping that I could lay my eyes on.

What I know so far : it will be a used camper and my husbands truck can pull 6000lbs

What I am kinda confused on : hitches, sway bars and water system ( black hose = waste ,white hose =water ??? )

Any tips that would make this easier would be great

as for weight they say do not try to pull anymore than 80 percent of your trucks capacity. we had a truck rated to pull 8800 lbs, we had a 5000 lb camper plus gear, it did fine on flat ground but not well at all on inclines. I do not believe their ratings are taking into consideration wind resistance. I would go light as possible. we have a weight distribution hitch and sway bar, DH would not go without these. on a tt you have black water tank [toilet only], gray water tank[shower and sinks] fresh water tank [drinking water] we always camp with hookups so we never use the fresh water tank. the white hoses you see are drinking water approved hoses for city water connection. It is not as difficult as it seems once you learn it all. any more questions ??

Make sure when you are looking for the right camper with the right weight, that you take into consideration what it would weigh if your tanks had anything in them and what you will be loading in it will add. We are in the process of upgrading our TV because we can't fill anything. We have a gas tank with pump in our TT and it would be real nice if we could use it. Another tip, really look around don't buy the first thing you like. We did that too. We were trading it in the next season for something with a floorplan and size that worked better. Are you thinking pop up or TT? I'll tell you I saw some AMAZING pop ups at the RV show I went to this weekend. They would probably be better on weight for you too. Have fun shopping!!

and with 6000lbs, there aren't a lot of choices.

Great advise to follow!!! When we were looking for a TT last year it was intent to go used but when we got to the first location we found a new one that we fell in love with and were given a great price for BUT we went to the RV show to see if we could get a better price there for the same one and to also see our other options as far as if that one was the right one for us.. needless to say we got there and the price for the one we wanted was $4,000 higher at the show then it was offered at the Place so we said forget it and went back that day and signed away!!

Some say 75%.
Your Tow Vehicle (TV) capacity also only takes in consideration of a 150lb driver. You need to figure in each additional passenger, Full fuel tank and any gear you store in the truck bed.
