I'm making my first reservation. I booked two days, but now I'm thinking I may want to adjust those dates slightly. Should I cancel my current reservation and rebook the new dates or modify the existing reservation? Which is easier? We are at the 11 month home resort window. October use year for December trip. Can I book dates and then drop some, if plans change? Thanks for the help.

Use the modify part of the reservation system. If you first cancel and then try to make a new one, someone else during that short period of time between cancellation and attempting a new reservation, could take the days you already have and you could end up with nothing that you want, and particularly for a December reservation, an extremely high DVC demand time, that is something that can easily happen if you first cancel rather than just do a modification. Doing a modification assures that whatever you already have will not be taken away by another while you are attempting to change the reservation. As to "easier," either way you do takes about the same amount of effort.

You can book days and then drop some later and keep the rest if the dates you want to drop are either at the beginning or end of the reservation. You cannot drop dates in the middle of the reservation without first either cancelling what you have or doing a modification that keeps only either the beginning or the end of the current reservation and then making a new and separate reservation for other dates you wanted to keep. Also, you should not drop dates at 30 days or fewer before your arrival date because all points taken out of the reservation would go into the Holding account and would expire at the end of the use year and can be used only to make a reservation at 60 days or fewer before arrival, something that can often be very difficult to do.
