Hi there :) I am taking my daughter to Disney as a birthday gift. She will be 5.We will be leaving in May.I am in need of help regarding pin trading.I thought this would be so fun for her.But I do have a couple of questions maybe someone can help.

1.I read that series pins cannot be traded.Does this count for sets.I bid on a couple of pins on ebay.We don't have alot of money to play with so these were 1 cent auctions, but I noticed there were alot of 100 years of magic pins.Do I need the whole set to trade or can I just get a couple of pieces?

2.Lanyards..where can I find a pretty Lanyard for my daughter. It will be her first lanyard so I want it to be cute..I checked ebay but the pickings were slim and a little more then we could spend :(

3.Being we have nothing right now LOL..any suggestions on what to buy to start her off on her very first pin collection. Are there pins or Lanyards that say "My first collection?"We are not wanting to do this for the value but rather as a fun thing for her to start.

4.Does it matter where the pins come from.Example..I get pins from Disneyland and Disney store can these be traded at WDW?

Thanks so much for allowing me to join and any help you may be able to provide :)

64 days 16 hours to go!!

Here is a link to Disney's offical pin trading site. It tells you quite a bit about what can legally be traded and what can't. A quick rule of thumb : is if it is a metal pin and says Disney, you can trade it.

There is another post here on the forum where Maggie gave some valuable hints.

There are some pink lanyards with princess pins on them that might be great for your daughter. Keep your eyes open on ebay. I remember seeing it on the pin carts in the parks.

I have seen pins that say "My first Mickey pin" and etc. I do not know if those are on the racks now or not.

With a 5 year old, my first advice is to have her pick a theme. If not, one day she will want princesses, the next Stitch, the next Tink. The expenses of collection are more controllable with one theme.

What you may have read about are pins that are part of a set that can't stand on their own. A few years ago WDW had 4-pin sets that spelled "1999" and "2000" with each number designed differently. Those can only be traded as a set. If the pin represents something on its own, it can be traded.

I second what CoolDisneyCat said about picking a theme. Otherwise you'll be getting every pin that's out there, and that can be pricey.

Another good thing is that apparently now the CMs are wearing children's lanyards, which only kids can trade from.

The most important thing to remember -- HAVE FUN!!! :jumping1:

You can tell the kid's lanyards from the regular CM lanyards because they are green.
