I have slowly been dabbling in scrapbooking. I took a basic class a couple of months ago and about 2 years ago put together a very simple book.

This year for Christmas I am going to attempt a family book to give to my parents from the whole family. I have been formulating some layouts in my head and so far "they" look great! LOL

My question is though I am going to do some layouts of the kids (13 of them) at halloween and other holidays. If I had lets say 3 or 4 pages of Halloween layouts should I put them one after one in the book or split them up.

I guess the same would apply to sporting events and such.

Do I group the pages or disperse through the book?

Thanks so much for any help or advice you can offer. This will be quite the undertaking but well worth it!

You're more experienced than I am - I've only just started a page - but from a "viewer's" point of view I'd think both ways have their merits.

Personally, I prefer to look at things chronologically. That way, you get to re-live the child growing up. Of course, the problem with that is you might not have enough of certain events to make a themed page for a particular time period.

If you do all Halloween/sports/etc together, I'd think you'd have more opportunity to theme the pages. The viewer still gets to look at the child growing up - to see the infant Halloween costumes, right through to the last one they wore, etc. Then there is the added benefit of getting to start all over again with sporting events.

I particularly enjoy looking at pix of my kids when they were younger & each time they make me say "Awww! Remember when..." - more so than their older pix. I can't say why...I love them just as much (probably more so) now than when they were infants because I've had more time to do it. But those pix are more of a distant memory.

Anyway, I think I've talked myself out of the chronological viewpoint. :o ;)

Either way is Ok. Thats what so great about scrapbooking there is no right or wrong way(unless you use the wrong products) its just YOUR way. What I would suggest is if you decide to group them all together have a lead in page like: Halloween from 1999-2004 with alot of stickers on the pages and the kids names placed all over the page. Does that make sense........ This would work if you only had a odd number of pages of course.

Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

This is a tough question and one that is more a personal choice. If it were me...I would make sure I use a top loading album. This will then give you the freedom to change your mind. (Top loading albums you slide the page in from the top into a page protector.)

I made my mom a family scrap book similar to what you are planning to do. I ended up clumping the activities/holidays together. It was easier for me to do and also allowed for the fun pages with just silly pictures and no reason....it was a celebration or anything. It would have been too hard trying to figure out the dates.
What ever you end up doing it will be a wonderful gift that they will love and one you can con't to build on each year!

Just one caution on what Spinning said. If you use that format with the idea that you might rearrange DON'T scrap on both sides of the cardstock. Once you do then at the very least those two pages have to stay together!

I think I would go chronologically, unless there are not a lot of pictures to work with- then I would group them all together. I enjoy the two page layouts as well, and I think the top loading method is good when you are unsure...just be sure to do what Fantastic Dis Fam said and not use both sides of the cardstock, or it kinda defeats the purpose of shuffling the pages around! :D Sounds like a great gift! I just got done with an album for my mother in law and it was quite the project!

good point Deb, never thought to mention that!

What ever you do it will be wonderful!
