Newbie Mardi Gras parade route questions

1. can anyone show/link to/describe the route - where it starts, ends, etc.

2. also, where are the best places to watch it and why (assume we will be skipping the concert)

3. how long in advance do we need to "hold' our spot?

The parade route is changed from year to year. Until the first Mardi Gras this year, everything is just speculation. In years past, I have watched by Jaws and then ran over and caught the parade again by Mel's but the route might be different this year. i always got there about 30 minutes early but the best thing is to watch the crowds and see if anyone is lining up yet.

As Phamton says, the parade route changes from year to year. Last year we watched it from outside Mel's Diner, which seemed to be as good a spot as any - we certainly got plenty of beads and some great photographs

There were a lot of people around but I suspect that will be the same everywhere and we were still able to see pretty well.
