OK, just stepped up from a P&S to a bridge camera, the panasonic FZ35. Don't laugh, but this is my first camera w. a lens cap! I tied it on the string as instructed, but hate how it dangles and bounces around

So here's my question for all you disney photography pros - what do you do w. your lens cap - do you tie it down as the manual says or do you just leave it loose and take it off and on as needed. I guess the fear I have is losing it (not like its easily replacable I would guess) but I can already tell I am going to hate it just hanging there bouncing around all the time

Advice/suggestions anyone?!?

thanks in advance for the help!

I stick it in my pocket or my bag and hope I don't lose it. I've only lost 1 in the last 3+ years and bought a generic cap as a replacement. It doesn't fit as well as the original, but it does OK.

I use to leave it tied to my Canon S3 IS when I used that. Otherwise its a pain to put it some place when shooting. Even with my DSLR its annoying to have to take it off and put it in a pocket/bag when I want to shoot. You'll get used to it dangling there...no big deal.

Stick it in a pocket when using the camera. As a guy, most of my pants have two back pockets, and I only ever use one, for my wallet. So using the other for a lens cap works for me - it's always available, and if I forget to put it back on the camera, I'm reminded of that any time I sit down and feel something where something usually isn't!

I hate dangling lens caps. Knock-on-wood, I haven't lost one yet. But they're not really all that hard to get new ones if you ever do.

I always wear button down shirts, just so I havew a pocket for my lens caps.

when wearing my vest it goes in a secure pocket in the vest

Because I'm always losing caps I take a small piece of Velcro and attach it to the bottom of my camera. Put another piece on the lens cap and attach it when I'm shooting. Works like a charm.

I tuck it into my bra. It's always handy that way and I don't loose it. Of course that won't work for men. LOL

I used to employ this method too, except I put the velcro on my camera strap. Worked well for my bridge camera when there was just 1 lens cap to keep track of. Now that I mainly use DSLR's, though, I tend to employ the "Put lens cap in pocket, then when replacing cap check every pocket except the one the cap is in" approach.

hmm I wonder if my assistant would mind if I keep my lens cap in her bra...:cool1::cool1:

I think what I am going to do is just ask random females I see at the parks if they will hold the cap for me in their bras - hope my wife won't mind!

Thanks for the advice everyone (and a special thanks to photo check for her insightful comments)!

I used to misplace lens caps all the time, although I have never permanently lost one and then I got in the habit of always putting it in my left pocket. I no longer temporarily misplace caps and always know right where it is.

I pocket mine. It stays off from the to moment I take out the camera until the moment I put it back in the pack. Most of my lenses have the same size cap, so I have a couple of spares and usually bring one on each outing (along with an extra body cap and rear lens cap, which you don't have to worry about).

So far this thread is WAY cooler than the one with Don and Downtown Disney!!!!:rotfl2:

Oh yeah, about the lens cap, I just keep it in my wifes pocket.:thumbsup2

this will soon be known as the photography/comedy board

back pocket, or wherever I happen to leave it... Ive had my camera less than a month and have lost my lens cap at least 8 or 9 times LOL. Hey has anyone ever washed one and sent it through the dryer? Does it break? Im just wondering before I do it (cause my pockets never get emptied.)

Always happy to help!

But seriously... when you're a woman with a camera wearing a dress and not carrying a bag or purse, where else are you supposed to put the lens cap? Guys take for granted the fact that 99% of their apparel has pockets.

My 17-55mm F2.8 takes a 77mm Cap which I think translates into a 36C.

Ok, so I'm not the first to post an autographed pic of Disney Don,

but I do have the first pic of the proper way to secure your lens caps to avoid loss..
