I've read the welcome archives so I hope I am not doing too much re-posting of past questions.

This will be our first family vacation and we are all excited! We now know that we are going the first week in December so we can do the holiday stuff at Disney.

Now, I am totally clueless as to how to begin planning this trip! I just want to do it all up right.

Here is what I know at this point:
1. Stay at Animal Lodge or Pop Century
2. Buy tickets to Mickey's Christmas Party
3. We will spend 2 days on most parks to pace ourselves I think. Maybe just one day at Animal Kingdom.

Not much, uh? LOL!

Questions:
1. Can we just go and decide on different places to eat when we get there?
2. If you are staying at one resort, can you go tour or eat at other resorts?
3. How hard is it to find your way around?
4. Best place/way to actually purchase my package

Anyways, would you great people mind helping me with some steps for my planning or some ideas on how to tackle all of this? I would be ever so grateful!

Thank you! Thank you!

WELCOME to the DIS - you can have loads of fun here

ENJOY

Welcome to the DIS :flower:

Questions:
1. Can we just go and decide on different places to eat when we get there? This really depends on the crowd levels when you go; at busier times of the year it is often difficult to dine at the table service restaurant without an ADR. There are some meals that are more popular than others so if you want to eat there you should make an ADR (like the Princess meals or Chef Mickey's)
2. If you are staying at one resort, can you go tour or eat at other resorts? Yes -- we usually try to dine in a different resort every time we go.
3. How hard is it to find your way around? If you are using Disney transportation it is no problem at all. The first time we went we drove --we were staying at POR and I think we went to the Epcot parking lot three times in one day :earboy2:
4. Best place/way to actually purchase my package I don't have any advice--our first trip we used WDW Travel.

Happy planning!!!

So far your info seems pretty good. Just wondered why you chose AKL or Pop. The MVMCP was a magical experience for us. Yes, you can decide where to eat once you get there. However, you may have to eat at off times to get in without a reservation. If you want to do any character breakfasts/dinners then you will most likely need to reserve that ahead of time. Everyone does their reservations differently. The first time I went through a travel agent. My last two I just booked directly through Disney. Mousesavers.com is a great place to get codes for discounts. Just keep your eyes peeled. Also, there are some people on these boards who know more about Disney than any author of any Disney books I have read! Keep checking these boards it's the BEST source of info. Is it easy to get around Disney? I found it simple. Just wait for the right bus and it will take you to your desired park. Can you eat at other restraunts? Yes, but if you don't have your own vehicle it can get tricky. The buses don't go from resort to resort. You will have to go to a nearby park and hop on the other resort bus to get there. You can also rent a taxi to go directly there.
I hope this helps. I hope you have as magical a first trip as we did! :earboy2:

I would definetly recommend buying the Unoffical Guide to WDW-2006. It just came out a few weeks ago. I bought mine for under $20 at Borders. It will give you priceless information on everything you can imagine. It lets you know the best days to go, what rides get busy when, it rate all resorts and restaurant. This forum can give you some great "extra" info. But unless you have hours upon hours to search for all your questions, the book is the way to go. Plus I'm excited on taking it on my trip, in case I have questions I hadn't thought about b-4 leaving.

I highly recommend that you stay at the Animal Lodge.

You don't want to miss Mickey's Christmas Party

I highly suggest making advance dining reservations to insure that you get to eat where you want to at the time you want to.

Yes you can stay at one resort and go tour or eat at other resorts.
I highly recommend that you eat at the Yachtsman at the Yacht Club if you enjoy a good steak. I will list a informative website at the end of the post which will give you a ton of info on Disney World including menus.

It is easy to find your way around and the website I am going to give you will list the best way to get from place to place.

I suggest purchasing your package with Disney. They have the best prices plus you can get Disney Dining which probably will save you some money. I will also give you another website which can save you money if you prefer to book another way.

If I can further help you please let me know by sending me a message.
