OK so I'm new to the whole VMK thing and I'm kinda lost. Are there any "real" prizes you can win or is it all just "virtual" and for fun?

Well, you used to be able to get a print-out to take to the park that would get you a VMK wrist band, but I'm not sure they have that anymore. There are also VMK cards. Or you could sell the VMK stuff on ebay, but a lot of people frown on that...

Mostly it's just virtual fun.

They are still doing the wristbands. I've recently gotten a couple of the coupons.

There are real pins you can buy to get you virtual prizes too.

Yes you win the realprize of getting to pretend you are a kid again and wander around WDW from the comfort of your living room

you can also do quests for a free in park prizes from time to time.

Like free pictures on rides.

I won a customized T-shirt last year during a ride-a-thon and others won Ipods.
Then there is always the free fastpasses at Disneyland when you complete all the in-park quests. They really come in handy.
