ok so I am very new to this. Have a few questions. (probably a dumb series of questions but here goes anyway!!)

Once you buy DVC membership can you change your home resort?
Lets say I bought now but later next year they opened, hypothetically another DVC resort --- can I change my home resort to the new one somehow?

Can anyone buy at the AKV or just SSR at the moment? If I can buy at either one at the moment, would there be any benefit to me buying at AKV rather than SSR if I plan to use the points at other DVC resorts anyway--(OKW, VWL)?

sorry if this sounds silly, ...I am trying to figure out if I will regret buying points for one resort versus another...also lets say they opened another DVC somewhere on the monorail in the future... :teeth: Who will be able to purchase ownership at that new resort first?

thank you!

No, you can't simply switch your home resort. You are purchasing a real estate interest in a particular resort. It's be like buying a house and then changing your mind and asking it you could switch to the house down the street. You'd have to sell the resort you bought originally and buy at the other resort, or (as many of us do) simply add-on at the other resort.

AKV and SSR is what Disney is actively marketing. I would say you should not purchase at a resort that you don't plan on staying at. If you don't want AKV or SSR, you can purchase any other resort as your home resort on the retail market (or even from DVC). Both OKW and VWL contracts are available on The Timeshare Store web site.

Tried & true---Buy where you want to stay!! I doubt that you would be disappointed at either SSR or AKV however. HAve you toured these or any resorts?

thanks for your responses. I have not "officially" toured as a potential DVC guest, I am new to this, but I have been to the AKL itself to see the resort and its theming etc, and done the same at WL. I am more fond of the WL than the AKL, but had no idea I could purchase DVC at the WL still. thanks.

another thing to keep in mind when deciding on a resort is the length of the membership. yes, you can buy at okw right now, but you've already lost many years. so if you would buy a akv, you would get the most years out of it starting now (50 years). if you buy okw, your contract ends 15 or so years earlier.

aha! great point, I didn't know that, thanks that is a really useful bit of info.

Any resort that you purchase points from is a home resort. We have three home resorts. But you can't just change your home resort. Just like you can't just decide to move into the neighbor's house and leave your's behind.
