I am going through the process of making an informed decision. The board has a great many tips.
I've seen how far in advance you can make a reservation, but I'm one to pick up and want to go. Are last minute reservations very easy to get, even with a couple of weeks notice and not necessarily at your home resort??

Welcome to the boards

I have done some short notice trips but typically try to plan out 7 months or more. You will find others making reservations on short notice as well. It will all depend of course on the time of year you are interested in. ONe thing to remember is to buy where you are going to want to stay when you go. With DVC growing in members and properties my feelings are that the 11 month booking window is going to become very important when making reservations.

Check your private messages for some other details I would like to share with you.

good luck

Our home is VWL. We made a ressie for a 9 night stay in May at OKW in a 2 BR two weeks before our trip and had no problem with availability.

We are also going to OKW for 7 nights late august in a 2 BR and made this ressie in May (3 months before the trip). Again, no problem with availability.

We have had good success with last minute ressies, but alot of it will depend on when you go and where you want to stay.

Good luck!!!!!

Hi there! I say YES--but this is based only my experiences thus far. DH and I planned a trip to both VB and BWV within a two week notice because DH found dirt cheap airfare online ($89 round trip from Detroit). VB was our home resort but BWV wasn't--and as you may have read, BWV is not easy to reserve but we didn't have any problems. We went on the waitlist and it came through within the week. This trip was for mid-May in a preferred studio so I don't know how other rooms or times of the year will effect this. Good luck!! DVC is the best! :D

These boards are the best and I'm sure you would not regret a purchase.

dentaldawg,

Be careful on how you interpet everything you read in this thread. I'll bet that for every person who was able to make a short notice reservation, there are 10 other people who could not. Don't make an assumption that you could pick up and go as you please with DVC. DVC is basically for people who can plan ahead.

Booking on short notice can be very risky. In the second half of your use year you will be beyond your 100 per cent banking deadline. In the last 2 months of your use year you will not be allowed to bank any remaining points. So if you are saving points in the last 2 months of your use year to make a short get away, you may find out that you can't get a reservation and all your points will expire. And as many of us will attest to, letting DVC points expire is a "cardinal sin".
