Newbie Camcorder owner looking for advice

I'm wondering what sort of accessories others take for their camcorders during DLRP holidays.

My camera only came with one spare battery so I'm trying to locate a supplier for others but how many should I take for a 3 night stay - two days in the parks.

Are there any dos and don'ts for camcordering in the parks. I've seen people use their camcorders on all the rides but I'm wondering if that's allowed.

I'd take the charger with you rather than spending money on spare batteries.

What's allowed and what people are 2 different things. The official park DVD has in the past shown a family using 2 video recorders in all number of 'off limits' rides!

I think it comes down to common sense. I've videoed Phantom Manor and Pirates of the Caribbean before but only when I was at the back of the boat in the case of POTC and when there was nobody in neighbouring cars in the case of Phantom Manor. I also shot in night vision which means the video camera emits minimal light.

I'd also suggest not videoing too much or you end up concentrating too much on that and not on having fun! It's amazing what seem like 'must video' moments on holiday turn into ffwd moments back home!

We take the charger and top up the battery in the evening.

As we have digital cameras also we tend to pick what day we will video rather than carrying everything each day into the park

I sometimes just let it film as i'm going round. Sometimes those turn into gems with funny comments from passers by etc. I always like to buy a bigger battery as the ones that come as standard are normally rubbish. But as said above don't let that become your life in the park or u will miss everything.

The first time we watched the new parade DH was taking photos so had his camera up at all times. We watched the parade again the followong trip without him taking photos and he commented about how different it was as he could concentrate on enjoying it not getting good photos so dont let it spoil your enjoyment.

The one big no no AFAIK is filming during shows- especially Animagique. I think Lion King is the same

I think there is a warning about no videoing and photography at Animagique.
We've videoed The Lion King Show but I close the lcd screen as I think this spoils the enjoyment of those behind me. That way I need to hold the video to my eye, which is just the same as the back of my head for the person behind me

i did all the photo taking and filming when we went last year, and i must admit i feel like i missed an awful lot, for example i tried filming on ride for Peter Pan and i was so busy fiddling with night vision or the light that the ride was over before i knew it and then when we watched it back it was pointless, it was all too dark after all!!
So i don't think i'll film this year, just take some pics i think...

I filmed in the lion king show and took photos..they even posed for some photos but I was too slow on the old button!! No flash though! At the Animagique show they actually say at the start that you shouldn't do these things don't they?

I went on star tours and I didnt realise my cam corder was on, I didnt even like the ride really and they interupted the actual ride to tell me to close my camcorder and turn it off!!!!

I was sooooooooooooooo embarrassed I really was.

NO I do not laugh about it now I still find it highly embarrassing, I got off the ride to hear a few teens moaning how it just spoilt their ride!!!!!!! I will never go on that ride again cos I am sooooooooooo embarrassed, I was right i the front row on this ride and I didnt actually click what was being said they had to repeat it, would the lady in the front row turn off the camcorder please! Of course as I wasn't aware it was on I was sat there looking at everyone else and it was ME!!!!!!

Glad I didn't much rate that ride eh!!!!!

That was mortifying! I did notice them walking about in Animagique the last time I was there telling folk to turn off their cameras.

That's also a good tip about picking one day to film rather than lugging it all about with you.

Mine's only a light little thing but with the batteries and DV tapes and what not it could be a bit of a burden after a while. I shall also be taking a still camera so I'm going to be a bit of a pack horse either way.
