Just discovered this board and have been peeking through threads, so thought I would introduce myself.

I'm Karyn, married to Colin for almost 11 years. I'll be 42 in April. I've been a social worker for over 16 years. I have a 6 year old son who I adore and 2 furry kids (dogs, Winston and Blackie).

I have been to Disneyworld 4 times. Once in 1974, the second time in 1984, the third time in 2007, and the last visit was 2010.

We are hoping to surprise my husband's brother's kids in June with a trip to WDW. They are 17, 12, and 10. We are just waiting to see when school lets out, since school will be extended due to excessive snow days this year. The surprise will probably be revealed at the hotel the first night, after we've led them to believe we are going to someplace kinda boring. We will either get a pizza, tell them to come and get some and have them lift the lid right then and it'll say "Surprise! We're going to DisneyWorld!!!" or give them a folded map of Florida and say "Find where we are on the map as a school assignment," and when they open the map, WDW will be circled and it'll say "Surprise! We're going to DisneyWorld!" I am open to other fun ways to surprise them, although I'm partial to the pizza idea (which I found online).

I feel like we've done our last 2 trips and missed so much from not being "in the know," so I'm hoping to get some good tips from this board this time around.

Whatever way you decide to tell the kids will be fine. The responses from the kids will be worth it!:worship:

I wasn't very good at hiding the fact of planning a WDW vacation from my kids. They saw me online looking at everything Disney. When I told my oldest, she got teary eyed and couldn't stop laughing, and kept asking me "for real!" My youngest didn't say a word (I thought she wasn't happy about the idea). She just looked at me (processing what I had said) and then her eyes got watery too. And then there were lots of hugs and kisses!

I hope you have a wonderful trip!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the welcome!

WDW 2011-I know you're right. I am so excited about surprising them, I can't sleep at night, lol. We booked 2 rooms at SOG last night since they didn't have any suites, but think I'm going to look for places that offer military discounts and try to find a suite big enough for all 6 of us. Doesn't seem fun if we have to split up.

My brother in law says he's not telling the kids they're going on vacation until he drops them off here...then we're telling them we're going to the beach. We came up with another way to surprise them. Since they think we're going to the beach, I will tell them we have the important things they need while we're there. One bag will have waters. The next...suntan lotion. the next...sunglasses. The next????? Mickey Mouse ears.

Thank you! :goodvibes

Just booked our rooms at Caribe Royale today for the military rate. The pool and hotel looks so awesome!!!!

You are going to have a great time...however you surprise them, it will be fine...and they will love you for it. Have fun !!!
