Newbie at FW in September

Hello everyone. I am bringing the family to FW the first week of September. We will be there Sept. 4th through the 9th. We will be driving from the great state of Texas. And I have a couple of questions....

1. Any suggestions on a campground in Orlando, we will arrive in Orlando late on Saturday the 3rd and will not check into FW until the 4th. Anything local that is easy to get into?

2. What is the difference in a preferred site and a normal site. We are in a 23 foot hybrid. How can I guarentee a nice site close to things.

3. We booked everything online. Should I expect a packet from Disney prior to our arrival with tickets and stuff?

4. Is there a good book for Disney newbies, our kids are 6 & 7.

5. What is the weather like in September?

My favorite stopping place is Silver River State Park which is about 1 1/2 hours north of FW on I-75

preferred get Disney cable.

FW has 3 levels of sites
Preferred = Water Sewer electric cable
Full Hook Up = Water Sewer electric
Standard = Water electric

"Close to things" is difficult at FW. You need to specify close to what. FW is over a mile from check in to the marina/settlement area. In the center is the "meadows" area which has the campfire/movie area. Busses leave from both the reception area and the marina area for parks.

You should get a welcome package. Tickets provided at check in.

4. Is there a good book for Disney newbies, our kids are 6 & 7.

Florida weather changes all the time. Expect it to be warm but showers in the afternoon are common. I recomend folks keep ponchos close at hand. Showers come up quickly and leave just as quickly. Disney is happy to sell you a poncho if you don't have one.

HI,

your local library should have several books on WDW.
The boards here are full of all sorts of information I find my self reading for hours and honestly the posts here are just as good if not better than the books

as for Sept weather.. it's pretty much like summer we camped one year over the holiday weekend and it was pretty crowded at the parks. DH perfers to camp at the fort in October.. the kids like it better too with the Mickey's not so scary Halloween party going on... and the food and wine festival for DH and my self is what we look forward too

There are two great Disney guides out there that really give you ALL the detail on WDW. One is The Official Guide by Birnbaum; they also publish a companion guide called something like Walt Disney World For Kids, By Kids - you might want to check that one out. The other really good book is the Unofficial Guide by Bob Sehlinger. Both will give you a good overview from slightly different perspectives.

My neice who's 4 will be going to Disney for her first time in October got the WDW for kids by Kids for easter (along with disney dollars and such) she adores this book loves to look at the pictures and pick out the rides she wants to go on its also got some games in there (like crossword and word find i think) if this is your first time theres a great little sing along video they takes place in fort wilderness (my DN got this as well) Its just called "Disney's Sing Along Songs Campout at Walt Disney World" theres another one that takes place in the park (its of disneyland but to a lil one they dont really notice the diffrence) that ones called "Disney Sing along Songs Disneyland Fun" my niece has watch those videos to death and it gets her all excited about going... You might want to check them out they are only like 30 mins long but pretty fun to watch...

What highway or road will you be approaching the Disney area on? The Turnpike? I-4? Highway 27?

Thanks everyone for the great information. I will check out the Silver River State Park, 1.5 hours out sounds just about right. Then we can get up on Sunday and drive on in to FW. It sounds like we will not be needing a preferred site (cable), just full hook ups which is what we reserved. I will also stop today and pick up a copy of The UnOfficial Guide to Disney.

In response to TurnR@TheMouseHouse... I know we will be coming in I-75 from the Crestview area and then jumping on the Florida Turnpike for about 45 miles but I am not sure from there.
