My family just bought our first pins and lanyards, now what do we do? Are there any particular rules for trading? What pins should we keep or trade? Will the CMs trade with you?

Please give me any and all info about pin trading. LOL! My son is loving all the pin buying. :)

The first thing you should do is visit the Official Disney Pin Trading site and click on the "Get Started!" link. There you'll find a FAQ that will answer nearly all your questions. You'll also find the Disney Pin Trading Etiquette PDF file that will give you a brief synopsis of what you need to know. Here's the direct link to the file:

And pay special attention to the first rule listed: Have fun! :)

it is very fun to trade pins with other CMs and even other guests at the parks. once you start buying and trading pins, you instantly become hooked to the excitement and enjoyment of it. it's even more rewarding if you decide to collect only pins from a certain movie or time era.
HAPPY TRADING!!!

Can someone explain the hidden mickeys on pins and cast member pins? I have seen the hidden mickeys but are these rare? collectible?

"Hidden Mickey" pins were called lanyard pins in prior years. Some people have also called them Cast Member pins in error.

Up until this year you could not buy Hidden Mickey pins. You had to trade with a CM. The way to tell it is a Hidden Mickey pin is to look at the bottom corner and you will see a Mickey head silouette. Now some Hidden Mickey pins are also for sale, to get you hooked. They aren't rare as it is an open edition. Some from the first year are now being sold at WDW. To see all of them, go to Dizpins or Pinpics. Each year there is a new series. The new series normally are debuted at the September pin event and they are released sporatically over the following year. Many people do collect them and try to get a complete set.

Cast Member pins are pins that only CMs can buy at the Company D store with proper ID or earn by doing something (i.e. donating blood at the blood drive, working on a special day, etc.)

Hope this helps.
