Hi everyone. I am a newbie here and I am currently planning my first family trip to Disney World. I am a single mom of 2 kids...a girl who is almost 11 and a boy who is 8. When is a good time to go? I would love to go around Christmas but will that give me enough time to plan and save? Any tips for a newbie??

Welcome. I am new as well but have already gotten some information. Just keep checking and asking questions.

Welcome!!!! You came to the right place! I am so excited for you and your little ones! If you want to go around Christmas, and you can get around school somehow, the BEST time is right after thanksgiving but before Christmas. Everything is decorated for Christmas but it is a slow time and perfect weather. You can definitely hit Disney on a dime and still have a blast! The Value resorts are super nice allowing wiggle room for cash but getting all the perks of staying on resort!
The best advice I can give newbies is to get the Birnbaum's official guide to Disney book! They also have a kid version. It gives the best tips and gets you pumped up about the trip.
I would also suggest nailing down your dates ASAP so you can start reserving places to eat. I pick certain parks for certain days depending on if they have extra magic hours and then go from there. If you need help with ANYTHING let me know!!

Hi and welcome!!!

I've never been there at Christmas. For me, Christmas is about being home with my siblings and mom. We're both teachers, so for us, trips always happen over the summer. We're now planning for summer 2014.

Christmas week, though I'm sure it's amazing, IS one of the 2 most crowded times of year (second only to Easter week.) And prices tend to be higher, with fewer (to no) discounts offered. So if you haven't said anything to the kids yet, perhaps you might want to consider next summer instead? It would give you more time to save, as well as enabling you to go over "value season" when things are a bit cheaper.

thanks so much for the warm welcome! I am going to start looking and nailing down dates this weekend! It has always been a dream of mine to do Disney at Christmas Im sure it would be very memorable for my babies!
