Yup, cause if they were from here they'd be wearing Red Sox or Mets caps :rotfl:

Glad you had a good time!

I am from England! And my son starts secondary school next week - he needed new pens, rulers, pencil case etc - and he wanted it all with New York Yankees logo! We've never been to New York!! But New York Yankees merchandise is BIG at the moment over here!

My son says its something to do with 50 Cent??!!!!

So yes, you're probably right, anyone wearing a New York Yankee baseball cap was almost certainly English!!

We noticed that too, at AKL, in July. My husband asked one woman if her family was from New York and she said no, they were from England. She says everyone wears them over there, because Posh and Becks wear them. She wasn't aware the "NY" stood for a baseball team. It was a wash though, because my husband had no idea who Posh and Becks were either. :)

50 Cent is always wearing a Yankees hat, so your son is right.

Posh Spice and David Beckham...interesting. I don't think I've ever seen them in Yankees gear, but I'm not really a fan.

It is true that you see more Yankees gear in foreign countries than any other...and I really wonder how many people wear it for the team. Sure seems like they only wear it because of who else they see wearing it.

Yankees baseball caps are about the only ones that you can get in shops in the UK :(

You may see the odd Red Sox cap, but they are rare.

I don't think this is related to baseball, it's just a fashion thing, or people associate the NY logo with New York city - especially after 9/11.

This is funny~ we live in Florida but are orginally from NY and my son is a HUGE Yankees fan and my son got the biggest kick while we traveled throughout London this summer and then on our 10 night cruise throughout northern Europe at how many Yankees baseball hats he counted! His friend is a huge Red Sox fan and the Yankees are not very popular down here in Naples, especially with the red sox spring training camp right up the road so my son was thrilled when he counted only a few red sox hats and hundreds of Yankees hats! We saw so many of the caps in Britian and that we laughed about it. We wondered why it was such a big deal over there.

As a New Yorker I just have to say plenty of Yankee fans here :rotfl: We love them. Our area is probably split evenly between Yankee/Met fans with VERY few Boston fans (usually they are the disgruntled Met fans rooting against the Yankees :earseek: ). No flames, in my book if it can't be the Yankees, it should be the Mets. But I will always be a Yankee fan first.

:rotfl: You're nicer than me! I'm a Mets fan through and through so that automatically means that I hate the Yankees. It pains me to say that it's mostly because they always freakin' win and I'm completely jealous! Well, it might also have something to do with the fact that my dad was a Brooklyn Dodger fan and couldn't bear to root for the Yankees when the Dodgers left NY. But that's off the subject...

The Yankees also have a TON of marketing, so it doesn't surprise me that it's common to find Yankee stuff overseas.

This thread is too funny. When we went over to eat at Bomas this summer I saw a few English guys with NY tee shirts, but I didn't catch it.

I noticed it for two reasons: I am a New Yorker, and my husband is from Birmingham, England :rotfl:

I teach 10 year olds (in England) and lots of them wear NY clothes and hats. However if you ask them what they NY stands for they haven't got a clue. They just wear it becasue their peers do!!

My DS will not be allowed to wear sports clothes for any team he does not support :rotfl: . Only Derby County FC for him and England. My DH would like him to wear the Newcastle United kit but this is not allowed either.
He is only 2.5 so I can get away with this :rotfl2:
