Yeah, we have just booked a 4 night trip to NY from November 14th at Thirty Thirty. :jumping1:

Would welcome any hints, tips, comments good, bad or indifferent. We are stressing out already about not having enough time to see everything! We are used to having tranfers, passes etc all thrown in and this is flights and accomadation only. How easy is it to get around? What sights would you recommend? :chat:

Thanks, Elaine.

The best way to get around is by taxi. It is an experience everyone should get at least once in their lives.

Definitely visit Ground Zero, it is very sobering. Take a horse carriage ride through Central Park and check out the museums. I'm not sure if you have tickets for any Broadway plays, but you should try to see at least one of them. I'm sure Lion King is sold out, but you never know.

You will not be able to see everything, so just relax and enjoy what you do get to see.

Have a great time!

You should easily be able to get tickets to the Lion King this far in advance. We finally saw it a few weeks ago, and it is totally deserving of all the accolades it has gotten!

Taxis are expensive, and depending on the time of day, it can take a big chunk of time out of your schedule. We prefer the subway, you can go anywhere on it, and it's really not that hard to get the hang of the system.

You don't say what you like to do, or if there are any children in your party?

If you want to do the Empire State Building (they have a movie, and the observation deck) plan to arrive early in the morning to avoid the crowds. We stood in line for a long, long time.

...and will be more than happy to assist in any way I can.

Places to go- Ground Zero, South Steet Seaport, The Circle Line boat Cruise, Ellis Island, The Empire State building, Central Park, a Broadway show or two....or three....LOL, Little Italy, Greenwich Village, in other words, almost everywhere.

Restaurants--get out of the touristy areas! Go down to the Village or up to the Upper West Side. There you will find excellent food at grea prices

Get a guide book and read it, most will give great tips. As far as getting around, the subway is the way to go and is much safer than it used to be.

Any questions, just e-mail or PM, I'll be happy to provide any help I can to make your trip a memorable one.

Linda

now, i work 4 blocks from Ground Zero, and I have a different take on things. these days it's just a huge construction site, you don't really get the feeling of what the place once was and what happened 2 1/2 years ago. there's a nice temporary monument on the fence surrounding the site, but I wouldn't come downtown just to see it. If you're going to go to the Statue of Liberty or the Seaport anyhow, walk over the Ground Zero.

If you're comfortable taking the subway, it's the fastest and best way around town. I'd take a cab later in the evening, but during the day the subways are just fine.

a great site for trip planning is NYC tourist.com
