DH is a huge Yankees fan!!!!!! We had planned to take a trip to see a game the last year they played in the old stadium but we didn't make it. DH is up for deployment soon so I have been busy planning a surprise trip for him/us.

Of the things we want to do in NYC......going to a Yankees game is the #1 priority. Have the game selected/tickets etc.

Need help here:

1. Their site says gates open 2 hours before game time. So if the game time is 7:05 gates are going to open at 5:05 right?

2. Is 4:30 a safe arrival time if I am correct about #1?

3. I noticed there is a Hard Rock Cafe at the stadium (another of DH's favorites).......is it possible to enter the stadium when the gates open and then go to the Hard Rock Cafe to eat dinner before the game starts? Or will the require exiting the venue and not being admitted back in? would it be a better idea to arrive even earlier if we wanted to eat at the Hard Rock before the game?

(sorry 3 was more than one question)

4. What are crowds like at gate opening?

5. If it's a day when a promotional item is being given out is it going to be super crazy?

Thanks!
Cristy

I can't answer them all but here are a couple of answers

On the Hard Rock- If I were you I would go before gate opens and eat there. Then head over to get in for the game. You have tickets. Your seats aren't going anyplace. I believe you can only enter from the street- but I might be wrong on that. We don't eat there.

And the gates are SUPPOSED to open 2 hours early- sometimes earlier sometimes later. The last game dh went to- they opened earlier-(but it was a weekend day game)

On #5 - it's always sold out- so promotional or not it's always busy.

Have a great time! And I'm jealous!

I'm sorry, I would love to help but I can't, I'm a RED SOX FAN! :lmao::rotfl2:

(just kidding, hope you have fun!)

DH & DS were just there this past Sunday. It was bat day for kids 14 and under. Not sure if you mentioned taking trains or not but the subways were all off (at least the different trains they had to take). They were shooting on getting there by 11:05 cause it was a 1:05 game. They were there a little late - luckily we knew trains were screwed up. They had some time to visit monument park and the museum. DH said they were must sees. I don't think the game was sold out - alot of those real expensive seats were empty. They had a great time. They even got some pics of the old Yankee Stadium being torn down : (

Ok so are you taking the train or driving? We drive. If you will too, be prepared for hefty parking fees. If I remember correctly (our last game was last year...haven't made it there yet this season) the fees were about $30 and I think you have to pay at a machine before you get into your car. (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

We always go very early. We have not found the gate area to be too bad even on a day like bat day. If I were you I would go to the Hard Rock to eat early as another poster suggested. You can enter and reenter the stadium from the Hard Rock. People tend to get settled in and take their time there so go early and then if you're done early you can explore the awesome new stadium and maybe see some BP. The line for monument park was really long but it went relatively quickly and it is a great place for any long time Yankee fan to see.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks for all the info everyone!!!!!!

Haven't decided yet how we will get there from our hotel. We are staying in Weehawken.......a little intimidated thinking about driving in that traffic......I'm a small town country girl.....lol.

Only Yankee fans in this house:) My advice would be that if you drive, not to park in the building adjacent to the old stadium with the 6 levels of parking. (I haven't been since last year, so I am not sure if it's still available.) I did this with my dad a few years ago and it took an hour to get down and onto the street from the third floor. We have gone other times and used various outdoor parking lots. We have found it has been fairly convenient to get out and back on the highway. Reading this post has me so excited as Dh got me tickets to a Yankee /Red Sox game this August. We went last year and it was AWESOME!!! Hopefully the Yanks smoke the Red Sox like they did at the game I went to last year. (That game was 11-3  )
I hope you have an awesome time. I am sure you will!!! :)

I just went Yankee Stadium last Saturday and it was cap day. My friend and I took the train from CT directly to the stadium (it's so nice that they put a train station near the stadium with direct trains to and from CT!) and we got there ~11:45am for a 1:05pm game and didn't encounter lines entering even though there was a promotion day. Definately go to monument park (I like it better at the old stadium though) - the line is usually long and it's crowded.

Those expensive seats are often owned by season ticket holders (individuals or companies) who don't always make it to the game. I think they still technically count as sold out even if those sit empty since no one else can purchase them.

1> yes give or take a few
2. Depends how you get there (drive or,B,D train) Allow extra time for parking and even more for exitining
3. yes easy access but again earlier based on what day and tome game is
4, scary its the Bronx for heavens sake
5. Promo days are built for eatra people so it will be crazy

Can someone tell what to expect the concession prices like at Yankee Stadium.

Better yet is there price list. I am already expect pay arm and leg.

I can get a 10% discount at the Hard Rock Cafe.

I am from the south anything above twenty dollars is expensive.

1) correct...there will be a bag inspection as you enter.
2) 4:30 would be fine depending on what you have planned prior (touring the stadium, legends field etc.)
3) Hard Rock - is open all the time there is an entrance from the street as well as an entrance from inside the stadium. I think on game days - you have to have a ticket to get in, so you should check on their website or call as to the specifics of when they open.
4) the few times I have been the crowds are managebale - I've used the Metro North trains to get to the stadium so there are usually large crowds entering all at once - but if you are there early you should be fine.
5) They usually have that stuff down to a science - went to YS for Old Timers day and been to CitiField for Batting helmet day - it was fine in both instances.

On side note you should think about inquiring if there is any sort of special military seating upgrade or private tour that you could take advantage of - especially if your husband is deploying soon. I think most NY teams are very aware and appreciative of the service men and women when they are "in town" for a game. Good luck with your trip, enjoy the game and let's go Yankees!
