Hi

Looking to do 3 nights New York 18 nights villa in Orlando jul/aug 05. Will be booking villa ourselves, what is the best way to book flights and New York hotel. Want to fly from Manchester. 2 adults and 2 children 14 and 17.

Any suggestions appreciated.
Many thanks.

We have just booked for Orlando/Washington for next March. I rang Airline Network (you can find their phone numbers on www.airline-network.co.uk ) and highly recommend them. They arranged the flights, the hotel in Washington and the car hire in Orlando - all for a very reasonable price. We have a contact of our own for a villa in Orlando - so didn't need them to arrange that.

As you want to combine Orlando and New York, you will have to fly scheduled. If I remember rightly, you can only book seats something like 335(?) days before you actually fly - but I would certainly give them a call now. We struggled to get the flights and dates we wanted.

I hope that helps.

Julie

There are now several excellent low-cost carriers working from Orlando to New York, and they are well worth checking out. Their best rates are usually online over there, too. I would check out Spirit Air (who fly MCO to New York LaGuardia) on www.spiritair.com, or TransMeridian (who fly from Sanford to Stewart, NY) at www.transmeridian-airlines.com. Then, for hotels, try www.hotels.com as they are currently advertsing some great accommodation deals throughout the US.

Thanks for your posts, just looking at villas today, so many to choose from. Have stayed at Hamiltons reserve a couple of times and this summer staying at Linfields for the first time.

Bye for now.

As a New Jerseyan, making many flights to Florida with the family, just wanted to add that you don't need to worry about a discount airline like TransMeridian or Spirit....all of the major carriers (Continental, Delta, American etc...) have very low fares to Florida all the time because of heavy competition...just book as early as you can.

FYI, I believe JetBlue (operates out of JFK Arpt) is the only carrier in the US offering live Direct TV to all passengers...I flew them for the first time last month and it was great to see live hockey game on the plane ride!

Have a great vacation!

I believe that if you travel via United Vacations they allow two or three free stopovers, so it might be worthwhile giving them a call.

We are flying Manchester to Orlando via Newark next month with Continental. We could have arranged for a stopover at Newark which should be no extra charge.

We flew with Continental from Heathrow to Newark a couple of years ago, and actually went transatlantic on a Virgin plane, with the internal flight down to Orlando International on a Continental plane-it's called a codeshare apparently.
When we arrived in Newark, had we been sitting on the left hand side of the plane, we'd have had a brilliant view of the Statue of Liberty in the early evening sunshine.
Try and book your flight as soon as it's released by the airline-it's different for different airlines, but roughly 11 months before you actually fly.
As for New York hotels, there are loads to choose from-where and which depends on your budget. We stayed in a Best Western very close to the Empire State for 3 nights, which we found good, and very central. Needless to say, 3 nights wasn't really enough, but we managed to pack in an enormous amount of things, including all the major sights and meeting up with some cousins too. It also gives us an excuse to go back sometime!
It was a great stopover before all the parks, etc in Orlando.
We booked everything ourselves, and have done so on all our holidays since. We wouldn't go on a package holiday again, as doing it yourself gives you more flexibility, it is definitely cheaper, and all the planning is part of the fun!
