New York Marathon changes to guaranteed entry

Anyone who is interested in the NY marathon and who was counting on getting in after missing the lottery......you may be in for a disappointment.

Anyone counting on getting in via a qualifying time......you may be disappointed.

I still may be able to squeak through next year if they accept my Martian Half time. Otherwise, I'm SOL. No way I can run a 1:40 half!

I think it is pretty crappy that they aren't guaranteeing entry to runners who have finished 15 of their Marathons. I kind of understand the other policies...but sheesh, if someone has done 15 or more of them, they should be worshipped!

You still get in with 15 prior entries as long as they are completed by 2015.

Super bummed! Someone I was running with this morning told me about the new rule. I hope I make it in through the lottery sometime...

Hmm. I won't qualify now at age 49 but at 50, with some work, it's possible. I don't think I'm going to get significantly slower in 11 months. New York was never my dream but the chance of not getting in makes it more interesting for some reason.

Looks like it will be 2013 for me if I can't lottery in for 2012. Denied entry for 2010 and 2011

I'm very disappointed! Looks like I waited 1year to long to start going into the lottery (this was my first year registering for the lottery - wish I knew they were going to do this before I spent the money). NYC Marathon will not be in my future! I will not spend money every year with the possibility of never getting in! There are too many other great races to run!

I'm in that boat too! Glad they keep that part in for the phase out (and I got in on the lotto when I did). I was so worried it was going to be a cold turkey cut after this year.
