We are planning a late August Dh and I only :cool1: trip to the Big Apple. Since every dollar saved is one for the Disney fund ;), just wondering if anyone has any economical hotel suggestions? We are trying Priceline but no luck yet.
Also, does anyone know if the new Disney store in Times Square is open?
This is my hubby's first trip to the city and I haven't been in years - any other suggestions are very welcome!:thumbsup2
Thanks so much!

I do not think economical and NYC generally are found in the same sentence.

Saying that, while we have not stayed there recently, you cannot beat the location of http://www.casablancahotel.com/ just off time square. I think it is reasonable by NY standards and includes a nice breakfast, beverages during the day, wine and cheese in the evening.

There were some great deals on Travelzoo last week for NYC!:thumbsup2
Haven't looked today..but might still be avail?

Not trying to hijack but I am also going to NYC for 2 days this summer.

That Casablanca looks amazing (but sadly is not available for the days we need) Does anyone else have any personal recommendations? Since its only 2 nights we are willing to splurge to be close to the action and sites. But with so many choices its nice to have someone say, yes I've been there and its great.

Thanks!

We do priceline and have had great luck with choosing Central Park South and 3.5 star hotel. We went for one night before our cruise to Canada last week and got a 4 star (Renaissance 57) for $119 ($280 published "weekend sale rate")!

Last year we had three nights (same neighborhood and time frame) for $129 also a 4-star (Hudson Hotel)

We also look on-line for cheaper parking rates and/or coupons for nearby parking garages to avoid the hotel up-charge. (icon and Central parking systems come to mind)

Hope that helps and have a great trip! :goodvibes

Two Words. Jersey City. we stayed there in May. they have a subway system called PATH that takes you to Times Square or World Trade Centre in under 10 minutes. We couldn't believe how quick it was. We stayed at the Double Tree Jersey City which is a block from the PATH train. from the time we left our hotel to the time we hit Times Square was under 15 minutes. the hotel was $160 per night. you can get to the statue of Liberty from Jersey as well by taking the New Jersey transit system, but we found it took pretty long. plus you stop at Ellis island before the statue. on the way to NYC from the statue you stop at Ellis Island. so its almost better to do it in reverse. you have to get your tickets first thing in the morning as well as they only let a certain number of people up the monument per day. we didn't get to go up unfortunately and we were there at 11am. But it was a Saturday. NYC subway system is amazing, very easy to get around. Just ask the ticket taker which train to catch if you aren't sure.

Thanks everyone for all of the great suggestions - really appreciate it! :goodvibes Ended up doing Priceline and snagged a 3 1/2 star hotel in a great area for $130 a night. (Hotel Affinia) Looks just fine for us and is super close to the train station. Expected to have to pay a great deal more so I'm quite happy with this. (a bit sad that the new Disney store won't be open but the hubby isn't!:rotfl:)
Thanks again!

Congrats on the deal! And have a great trip! :)

We stayed at the Affinia Dumont a couple of years ago and were very happy - we have friends who've stayed at their other hotels and we got very positive reports.
