Sorry, I know this has been asked before, but I can't get the search to do what I want!

Looking for recommendations for a hotel in NY for me and DD. I don't want to pay a fortune (may be asking for the impossible!) but would like somewhere near all the major tourist sights, and clean and comfortable for the two of us.

Thanks for any help :)

We stayed at the Algonquin (Trailfinders booked it for us) which was pretty central and a fun hotel as it used to be where writers met in the early 1900s. It was a few years ago we went but we thought the price was reasonable at the time.

I stayed at the Novotel which was lovely. Its right on Times Square and has the most amazing views of it.

We stayed at the Millenium UN PLaza in 2003, right opposite the UN Building and a 15 minute walk to Times Square we had a fab view from our room.

we are staying in the radiocity apt this Oct
The price of hotel rooms was crazy and for 5 of us we needed 2 rooms
check out tripadvisor.com for reviews

On ebookers .com they are doing 5 nights in NY for approx £450 at the moment. :)

We stay at The Hilton on Avenue of Americas and love the hotel and location. It's a little impersonal (think huge!) but the rooms are spacious and the location is perfect - five minute walk to fifth avenue and Central Park. Times Square is about 10 minutes walk away. I'd recommend paying the extra for club level - you get a nice continental breakfast (with delicious New York bagels!) and access to the 44th (?) floor lounge with incredible views of Central Park and the New York skyline. There are also complimentary beverages and snacks throughout the day. You also get a room on either the 42nd, 43rd or 44th floor - meaning not only excellent views, but a much quieter room as they are further from the street level.

We've since bought timeshare here, and have just returned a couple of days ago. The hotel is still looking great :)

When I went a couple of years ago I booked through Lastminute.com and stayed at the Wellington, 2*, good price, hotel was fine and location excellent, 7th & 55th Street near Central Park etc I would stay again. Flights & hotel cost £299 each for a long weekend at the end of Feb which was a nice time of year.

Thanks for all the suggestions :) We have flights booked, so are just looking to sort out the hotel.

Also looking for the best way to get from Newark airport to the hotel. Taxi? Shuttle?

I've always use the Blue Van shuttle - fixed price so I can relax in traffic ;) If you go to Ground Transportation at Newark these shuttles between the airport and Manhattan hotels are easy to find. The other thing I like about them is for the return journey, you just ring them with your flight number and they tell you the time of pick-up. No need to worry about whether you've got the timing right :)

I've done New York 3 times and have always liked where we stayed, but the only budget one I did (this is a relative term for NY you understand :) ) was The Beacon on the upper westside and we loved it because we had a small kitchenette, a living room and was opposite a deli - so after a day's sightseeing, it was good to buy stuff to eat in the apartment. It's also on the Holiday Which's list of recommended places to stay in NY.

Amazing View Clare L.

We stayed in the Radisson on Lexington Avenue (same street at the Chrysler Building) and often walked from there to Times Sq etc.
Only took about 10 mins.
It was a nice clean hotel.

Tip though - go for a Medium Room, rather than the smallest.

Ours was small and we managed to move to a bigger room which was much nicer for no extra cost (only cuz there was a big bug in our small room, but it wasn't cuz the hotel was dirty - it just rained a lot once evening so this bug tried to find some where to hide - unfortunately for us - it chose our room!!) :rotfl:

We found our King bedded room to be of ample size :)
