New York City

We haven't stayed outside the city yet because we always go when it is a cheaper time of year. Are you planning on going around X-Mas, I know that is very expensive. I have thought about staying in Jersey City there is a Courtyard by Marriott across from a commuter rail station on that side of the river. If you aren't going until after the holidays, we just booked the Hampton Inn near Rockefeller Center for $169 in February, we stayed there last year and the location was fabulous.

There is an Embassy Suites in Seacaucus, NJ which is on the bus route and you can take the bus into the city.
If you are looking for really inexpensive, there are some hostels on the upper west side that are well under $100/night (depending on time of year).

We have stayed at the Sheraton Suites several times right across the river from NYC on the Jersey side. I believe the city name was Weehawken. The ferry is right outside the hotel! On the NYC side when you get off the ferry there are buses, taxis, and the subway to take you to wherever you want to go. Also at that location point you are in Mid-town so you can walk to a bunch of places too.

We always stay there when going to NY , have gotten Sheraton on Hotwire for 50 dollars a nite which was fine.

Check out some of the deals on www.travelzoo.com under NYC lodging specials before you decide on outside of the city.
There are some FANTASTIC deals right now.

Thanks everyone I was already to go on a bus trip this weekend and at the last minute it was cancelled and I stillw want to go. Anything that is close on the Jersey side owuld be great if there is transportation to take me too the city I do not want to drive I will definately check these out and anyother adivse or help will be much appreciated like what not to miss this time of year:hippie:

There is also a Sheraton at Newark's Penn Station which is very convenient and they usually have a great deals on the weekends since its more of a business hotel.

The Sheraton Suites in Weehawken is a great choice since you'd love the views and the ferry ride (we've driven there just to take the ferry into the city).

Have a great time. This is one of the best time of the year to go to NYC!!! We're going in next weekend to see the tree and the windows. It's been a tradition since my DDs were babies!

WHY do you want to stay outside the city? It's part of the experience, imho. I love being able to go back, unload, put my feet up for an hour and hit the streets again. I think location is really an important enhancer to a trip to NYC.

Can't afford it really and am afraid to book somewhere I don't know I have been 2 NY so this is all so new for me only doing a quick weekend trip

I would check Hotwire and Priceline. I got the Sheraton Towers for $115 last spring. Right in midtown. Great location.

I haven't stayed at this hotel but have used the ferry several times. It is a great way to get into the city. http://www.nywaterway.com/ when you get off the ferry your faire includes a fleet of buses that take you into different areas of the city and back to the ferry again. The faire is about $7.00 each way.

We stayed at the Double Tree in Newark, right across from the airport. Not sure how far out of the city it is because we only stayed there for the night before a cruise.

We are travelling to NYC in Feb (from Europe) and were suprised by the great deal we got on Priceline. We won the Double Tree Guest Suites on Times Square for $110 per night. Great rate compared to what we paid a few years back.
