We are going to see a show on 52nd street at 1:30 in the afternoon Sunday. We had hoped to eat at Carmines at 44th street before the show. The earliest I could get reservations for is 12:00. Would that be enough time to eat and get a cab to 52nd street for the 1:30 show? We will be in the city before 12:00 so we could show up early and hope to get seated sooner.

I am not sure how long it would take to get a cab or how soon you should arrive at the theater before the show. We do have our tickets already. I'm thinking maybe a restaurant closer to the theatre might be better. There is a place called Rino Trattoria that is on 8th between 52nd and 53rd street that looks good. Any opinons?

Part of the problem is that a cab just isn't the best way to get from 44th to 52nd pre-showtime. The area is chaotic. If everyone in your party is up for the walk, that's your best bet. 12:00 - 1:00 is plenty of time to eat, 30 minutes is enough time for the walk and getting to your seat for many people, but not all. Be sure to think about what shoes you are wearing. And be sure to tell your waiter that you need to leave by 1:00 to get to your show.

Personally, I'd avoid the stress and eat someplace closer.

I'm with the other poster. Honostly, I think you would be cutting it extremely close. Some shows don't allow anyone to be seated 15-10 minutes before the show starts. If that happens, then you have to wait until like 20 minutes into the show before they will show you to your seat. It might be a better idea to eat somewhere else before the show.

I agree... you shouldn't need a cab to walk to 52nd if you are all physically able to do it. They are pretty short blocks...not like the ones you walk to get from West/East. But I hate to feel rushed, so I'd eat somewhere closer!

I agree with Cindy's Mom - change your reservations at Carmine's to AFTER the show. It's a great restaurant and I wouldn't want you to miss it. With timing and Carmine's huge portions, you need the time :teeth:

Enjoy!

If you don't want to eat after the show just get to Carmine's at 11:30. You will usually get seated right away. A couple years ago I tried to get a reservation but they were all booked. The woman on the phone told me get there at 11:30 and we would get in. It worked and I've done it a few time since then.

If their portions are as huge as JELBoggio says they are - you really should eat after the show. I know know that eating too much pasta makes me sleepy.

I'm traveling to NYC for the first time this spring (probably Saturday through Monday). I have just started planning the trip and have lots of questions. Is Sunday afternoon a good time to get tickets to a Broadway musical? Any tricks to getting discounted tickets for Sunday matinee or Sunday night?

Thanks for all your suggestions. Our original intention was to walk to the theatre but the latest forcast is calling for cold, wind and maybe even snow. After the show is not an option becuase we have a 3 hour drive and kids that have school early the next morning. I'm thinking maybe making a reservation closer to the theatre for lunch and playing it safe.

I was able to get discount tickets for the show using a discount code from www.broadwaybox.com. You may want to check it out.

A couple of years ago we went to Carmines after seeing a christmas show in NYC. We had to wait 3 hours for a table, it was crazy. We'll never do that again!!!
