I have sooo many threads on the go..I will need to buy everyone a drink when I am done!!

Daughter is moving into New York City next week to attend school..lots to figure out. She'll need a cell phone..but the plans all look like we have to lock in for 2 years or do a pay-as-you-go-card? Anyone know differently? She is likely there for 18 months..so 6 months we'd be paying and not be there. On the pay as you go..calling home (Canada) is pretty pricey..thoughts?

Wow..I am exhausted:rolleyes:

What a great mom you are. DD is lucky to have you helping to figure things out. :thumbsup2

Thank you SO much!! AGAIN!
I tell you..we go back and forth and make calls and look online and the BEST information we ever get-is right here on the Dis!
Amazing..great cross section of people to ask.
Yes, the 1-800 number worked..DH called a few providers and my head is spinning so who he has arranged with I can't remember...that seems 20 conversations ago...goodness me.

I have copied and pasted your reply...and once again--will delegate that to DH as well! LOL..I think the plan is to sort that once we get there but good to have an idea of what there is and where to get it!

I so appreciate the help..
I now NEED a vacation!;)

It's late. Prop up your feet and get a nice cool drink. :drinking1

I'll post the Tracfone info tomorrow (when I'm more awake, :yay: ) so DH can have it as a reference. :goodvibes

Oh, and BTW, I did ask Verizon if they have any DSL + cellphone deals bundled together. Nope. :( I would have gone for that one and given up my beloved Tracfone if I could have gotten a great packaged deal together.

Did you check with your current provider to see if they have a plan that covers the US? I know our Nationwide plan with Verizon works in Canada. I would think the reverse would be true. With the plan we have, all calls are "local" no matter where you call from. Also Verizon has free calls between Verizon customers (as do a lot of companies) so your calls back and forth wouldn't count against minutes anyway.

I did..$40 a month..that's on top of the monthly rate we already pay which I can't really breakdown because we are all tied into one Family plan. Can't recall the minute allowance..maybe 200 per month? She texts more than anything..
I should call and ask again...

Thanks again for the tips..Today's another day!;)
