It is our 10 yr anniversary on 9/10/04. We were planning on going to Cape Cod without the kids, but then DH suggested New York (without the kids). We have always wanted to go to NY and see a show, so I thought it was a great idea. But we would be going Friday, 9/10 (by train) and leaving either 9/11 or 9/12- But now I'm a little scared because of the date. I don't know if I want to be in NY on 9/11, far from the kids...I think you know what I'm trying to get at...what is your opinion? I know I can't live in fear, but I'm a little nervous still. We could go on another weekend, but DH has already asked for the time off..he thinks that we should just go, but I'm not so sure. We have relatives in NY (Cousin was in World Trade center at the time of the tradgedy, but he got out, thank god)...any advice welcome.

I'd say just go. Nothing has happened the past two years on Sept. 11th, and chances are nothing will happen this year on Sept. 11th. Perhaps you can take a little time out of your day that day to pay respect to the victims.

Its up to you ...But i would suggest that you come here to NYC and visit. We live here everyday and we really dont feel there is any reason to suspect any greater threat to us on 9/11 as compared to any other date. Listen..life goes on and so must we..There will probably be another attack of some sort in the future...and it seems that these animals focus on NYC..but we are still going to live our lives ...raise our families...enjoy our wonderfull city...live in our freedom....ALL, without worrying about when they might hurt us again...So, if you have a chance to visit NYC..come here and join us..you will have the time of your life...

Thanks for the advice- I know that I shouldn't worry so much- if I had my kids with us I probably wouldn't be debating going at all...we really want to see a show and have fun in NY- we'll probably come :earsboy:

I agree with the other posters, go to New York. I believe everyone should visit New York and see a show at least once.
I love New York :D

Oh dear...I would just go.:)

There are so amny significant dates out there....you just can't live your life avoiding them; I know you know that.

Go, enjoy,spend OOOOODLES of money...go capitalism!:p And HAAPPY ANNIVERSARY!:Pinkbounc

I agree.

btw 9/11 is a saturday this year, so lower Manhattan won't be very crowded...

I would certainly go! Have a great time! What show are you going to see?

Ok- now that I am probably going, can anyone help me find a place to stay??? I know all about planning for Disney, but nothing about NY- I've been twice- just for the day-I have no idea about where to stay, etc- we want to do all of the touristy things- I don't even know where to start...we are taking the train...thanks......:earsboy:

Wonderful!:)

Please, please do me a favor...I always recommend the Inn at Irving Place but have had no one take me up on it....ultra romantic, has a grand, old New York feel to it...you can skip on down to charming local eateries like Friend of a Farmer for brunch...please go...and then tell us all about it!!!;)

But there are loads of other nice places, too.;)

I would REALLY go, my DH is there now, visiting his family (mom was ill and so was brother)... but everyone is doing better. Depending on how much your budget is, there are WONDERFUL places to stay! It's hard to recommend - without knowing but there are websites just for those situations! Planning is part (for me almost more) fun than the trips! I lived in NY for 5 years, and I agree, it's A MUST for adults. The history, the shopping, THE FOOD, the shows, NY has a life ALL it's own. Enjoy! I'll be thinking about you! (And a little protection prayer as well, just for your comfort!)

I never actually stayed inside the city although I lived my entire life right outside of it, over the river in NJ!

I ALWAYS wanted to stay at the Grand Hyatt. It looks beautiful inside and is right in the middle of everything.

I work in NYC and have been in the city for the past two 9/11. It felt as safe as usual, just a little more solemn.

I went to St. Patrick's Cathedral on 9/11/02 and found myself listening to a memorial mass. It was very sad and very comforting.
