Hello, planning a few days in New York this June, can get the Waldorf for about the same price as the Doubletree Suites in Time Square (thanks to a corporate rate). We will be doing all the touristy stuff in as much time as we can. Which would be a better choice? Of course I was SHOCKED at the prices in New York! But a king room at the Waldorf or a suite at the Doubletree. Having never been to New York I just can't decide.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I'd stay at the Waldorf just for the fun of it. Suites are not always large rooms. Also, King bedded rooms in hotels are often smaller but also often corner rooms with two windows. No guarantee of this but it used to be the norm at places like the Waldorf.

I haven't stayed at the Waldorf but I have stayed at the Doubletree Suites. The suite is rather large compared to typical NY rooms. It has a separate living room from the bedroom and the bathroom is rather large. I enjoyed my stay and I especially liked the location at the time.

Edited to add: If you need more space, I'd stay at the Doubletree.

My sister always stays at the Waldorf when she comes to visit. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, and the rooms are larger than most in NYC. You can catch the subway only 2 blocks away and you're super close to the Central Park, on the zoo side, if that interests you. I don't know anything about the Doubletree, but I'm always leery of telling visitors to stay at any of the hotels in Times Square. I think Times Square's OK to walk through on your way to a show or for 15 minutes to take a look at the sites, but I certainly wouldn't want to stay down there, especially if you're a light sleeper.

I would go with the Waldorf. It's close to everything.
Being in the center of Times Square is too busy.

We stayed at the Waldorf for one night 24 years ago.

The best bed I ever slept on. :rotfl:

My folks have stayed at the Waldorf and it really is a beautiful place. Remember though that it's OOOOOllllddddd and it shows a bit. It's NOT rough or beat up, just very old school in looks. I really like it.

Doubletree is standard.

Because the price is the same, stick with the Waldorf. It's a NY institution! Plus, it's located right by Grand Central Station, Bryant Park, very close to the base of 5th Avenue main shopping district. Also close to Times Square and lots of other stuff.
