We are arriving on December 31st. I know it is the busiest day of the year, so we haven't decided if we are even going to try DL that day. The crowds from Christmas last year were just too much.

Does anyone know of anything around DL that would be fun to do? There will be four of us, me, DH, DD 10 and DS 8.

We're going to be at DL that day as well - first New Year's Eve at DL :-) There's supposed to be a special fireworks show that night too

We'll be there too, but will probably stay at california adventures side...isn't it supposed to be a little less crowded on NY eve?

We have done New Years eve at DL, but it was about 10 years ago. Even back then we were packed in like sardines for fireworks. I mean it. Shoulder to shoulder standing room only.

There are a whole lot of things to do in the southern california area that are not DL. It all depends on what type of "entertainment" you are looking for.

This thread in particular will give you some good ideas of what you might find.

The beaches will be too cold for swimming but they still make a nice visit to walk along the beach. All the theme parks are likely to be pretty crowded as they all offer some sort of New Years Even "party".

We find that at about 3 or 4 PM when DL starts to get nuts the best tactic is to head across to DCA and stay there. The crowds are WAY lower and there's champagne. :)

Be prepared... People start staking out spots in front of the castle for the fireworks by noon.

That said, we have been at Disneyland for NYE every year since 1999 (except 2003.) DCA is slightly less crowded. Expect the park to close at some point. And expect it to be shoulder to shoulder crowded. We will be the group relaxing in NOS away from everyone....

When we were there last NYE people put blankets out on MS as soon as the park opened and sat and read all day!
