It will be just be DH, DD21, DS19 and myself (I think) so we're going to do a repeat of last year's dinner which was surf and turf: chauteaubriand and stuffed shrimp. DH also said he wants oysters this year. I'll probably have some picky stuff for later in the night, too.

That's a good question -- it's just DH and I, and we like to make some yummy crazy-indulgent noshes, but with just the 2 of us we're limited. Normally we get some premium cheeses, prosciutto or pate, olives, pop some bubbly, but...well...after a while that gets repetitive. May just do the same cheeses and add on chilled shrimp or sushi. I know, what hard choices ;) But if anyone has some suggestions for foodie type, but not too terribly complicated HD's that are easy to pare down for 2, I'd appreciate it.

I did find this champagne cocktail recipe I might do for us -- a twist on a Kir Royale:

Ingredients
1/4 cup crème de cassis (black-currant liqueur)
1 1/2 cups strained fresh blood orange juice (from about 6 oranges)
1 750-ml bottle chilled brut Champagne or dry sparkling wine
8 blood orange slices (optional)
Preparation
Spoon 1 1/2 teaspoons crème de cassis into each of 8 Champagne flutes or other glasses. Add 3 tablespoons juice to each glass. Fill each glass with Champagne, then stir gently. Garnish cocktails with slices of blood orange, if desired.

Though I'll cheat and just buy the bottle blood orange juice.

We (me, DD21, DS12 and DS 5) will be going to Chinese buffet for New Years Eve, but for New Year's Day we are doing Fondue!

We are going to do both cheese and chocolate fondue!

I hate to say it, but the traditional New Year's Day meal is my least favorite meal. I stopped making it several years ago. We don't really have a new meal that we just must do yet, so I'm not sure what we'll have.

For New Year's Eve, it is just all about the munchies. LOL!!! Lots of breads/crackers and dips.

Yep, we do munchie foods New Years Eve with Sprite for the kids in nice glassware (no plastic on this night) and sparkling wine for us adults. Nothing special on New Years Day.

Pizza dip w/ French Bread...recipe please?

You take a package of cream cheese and mix in a teaspoon or so of Italian Seasoning mix. You spread that in the bottom of a small baking dish, I think mine is maybe an 8 or 9" one. Then you mix 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, 1 cup of parmesan cheese. You'll also need 1 jar of pizza sauce and whatever you usually put on a pizza (chopped cooked pepperoni, chopped green peppers or mushrooms, chopped onions or olives....etc)

You put a layer of the mozzarella on top of the cream cheese mixture (about half), then the pizza sauce, then the remainder of the mozzarella cheese mixture. Then top with the meats or veggies and put it in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes until it's all bubbly on the top. You can also add the green peppers or olives....etc after it's baked if you want them crispier, but I add most of mine....especially any meats before I put it in the oven.

I toast my french bread pieces a bit under the broiler and then they are ready to be spread with this pizza dip....it's really good. I found it in a Pampered Chef recipe book a few years ago and it's been a family favorite ever since.

LOL, we always do the traditional meal on New Years Day too.....just a small spoonful of black eyed peas for everyone and we always use ham and turnip greens. We actually like everything except the black eyed peas so it's not that bad of a meal :) if you throw in some pinto beans.

New Years Eve will likely be the pizza/pasta deal from Pizza Hut :lmao:

We will hopefully get together on New Years Day to celebrate with family members that were snowed in on Christmas :wizard:

Homemade soups and breads/cheeses will be on the menu :thumbsup2

I'm looking for Paneras potato soup recipe if anyone has it :goodvibes

Shrimp cocktail
Wedding soup
Prime Rib
Baked or scalloped potatoes
Asparagus wraps
Cream puff dessert

then munchies for later.

We are hosting 2 other families w/a total of 6 adults & 9 kids...but I am going to get a really large platter of nuggets from Chick Fil A, cheese/cracker platter, fruit, spinach/Artichoke dip, spiral ham from Honey Ham store, rolls, honey mustard, veggies & dip!!
I am all about making it easy to put together...I don't want to be cooking a lot the day of the party. This way we'll also be able to enjoy the leftovers the next day!

Oh yeah, and shrimp cocktail and dessert!!

For NYE hubby will grill wings and then sauce them in a variety of different sauces and we usually make some goopey nachos, chips and dip.. for New Year's Day I am making BBQ'd pulled pork sandwiches, greens and black eyed peas....I heard the traditional meal was lucky so I started making it 5-6 years ago and things get progressively better each year..I even make it here and there throughout the year if we need a little boost and so far it seems to work for us...hubby and the kids hate it...but even hubby is superstitious enough to choke down a spoonful of everything.
