New Year's Eve strategy?

For the first time, we are going to be spending NYE at WDW. Of course the plan is to be in MK for the evening/night. What is the strategy for making sure you are able to be in MK for the night? Do you go over to MK in the morning/early afternoon and just plan on being there the rest of the day through the night? If you have an MK reservation for that day and decide to go for rope drop, go back to the resort in the afternoon, are you still guaranteed to get back into MK that evening with the reservation/already been in the park that day?

Another twist to our plans is that we have family flying in that afternoon. We are going to have them make reservation for MK, but they may not be able to get to the parks until early evening. Are they still guaranteed to get in with the reservation?

If you have a reservation for a given park, you are guaranteed entry to that park that day no matter what time you arrive or how many times you enter. If they need to control crowds, they’ll close the park to hopping.

Thanks. So it looks like we will book reservations for MK that day for everyone in our party.

If you think of it…please update this thread to tell us about your trip. We’re doing a WDW NYE trip next year. I’d love to hear how your trip was and what you did.

I thought that park reservations will be a thing of the past by NYE 2025/2025. In this case, they are an advantage.

I went to nearly 20 NYEs over the years. We would always be at the park early, leave in the afternoon and return around dinner time.

Here is a list of Park Closure Phases from pre-Covid times. My guess is that they will go back to them.

The MK will close to at least Phase 2 and often goes to Phase 3 that entire week. It has even gone to Phase 4 a couple of times. Luckily, it always reopens to Phase 3 which allows resort guests to enter or Phase 2 which allows all guests to reenter.
