New Years Eve Park Closings

I'm planning our first post-Xmas week trip. On New Year's Eve, I want to do MGM. Does anyone have experience with whether or not MGM is likely to close the gates on 12/31? Will we have to get there early in the morning and stay until Midnight?

New Year's Eve 2003-2004 we arrived at Disney Studios about 4 or 5PM and stayed until about 1AM. The park was not that crowded (we walked into a Fantasmic without any wait - there were three shows that night) as MK and Epcot were reported to be. The fireworks were excellent.

was anyone there last year and what can we expect? we were planning on dining at brown derby. has this retaurant been on a fixed holiday menu in the past?

I was at MGM last NYE and it is the least crowded park. We were staying at the Dolphin and went to MGM in the morning ,left for part of the day and came back later on. We had the Fantasmic dinner package which is for the first show only. We had done the Keys to the Kingdom tour the day before and met one of the top people of Disney. She said MGM never gets to capacity but MK does. We were able to see the fireworks from Epcot just outside the gates of MGM It is a little earlier (about 15 or 20 minutes) Then we watched the MGM fireworks. It was a very good fireworks display. We got up early the next morning and went to MK and there were no line ups at all until nearly noontime.

We were in DW a few years ago for NYE. We had been told that Epcot and MK would close early but that we would have no problem getting into MGM. We tried around 1PM and MGM was already closed as well. The only one still taking guests was AK.

Maybe because AK doesn't offer any fireworks people don't tend to go there on NYE?
