My family and I are going to Walt Disney World for New Year's Eve (staying at BLT). This will be our first trip during New Year's Eve. I have been doing a lot of reading up on these boards and it looks like both Magic Kingdom and Epcot would be "magical" for this event. Everyone in our group is adults ranging in age from 50 to 21..there are 6 of us.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on which park you prefer for this time of year and why.

I look forward to seeing everyone's response. Thanks!

Either of those two theme parks may require you enter the park in the morning and stay all day long.

We always celebrate New Years at Epcot. There is so much more room for everyone at Epcot. We have entered as late as 6pm and had no problems. Magic Kingdom is much more likely to reach capacity

I spent NYE in MK in 2011 and had a great time! I got there early and stayed until about 10:00pm. I was just too tired from standing to stay any longer. The park was closed due to capacity by 10am on NYE and there were long lines for everything. Make sure you do your must dos and sees and just enjoy the parades, etc. You'll have a great time! They had a DJ after 10pm to help count down. Some people brought blankets and chairs to sit in, but I'm not sure what the policy is on that.

I have given warning to my kiddos, once they enter the park, they cannot leave until next year. :scared1: We are a blanket family, I carry one/two small fleece blankets in and they just check it during bag check, let us in. I have used them for cushioning to sit on a curb during Wishes throughout our stays. :grouphug:

As for op, you'll be at BLT close to MK which can make going back to resort that much easier, just a quick walk.

If you will also be there on Dec. 30, then maybe you could do both. The times we have been there for NYE, MK has special fireworks on BOTH Dec. 30 and 31, so you could do MK on Dec. 30 and Epcot for NYE.

Whichever park you decide on.......you will either love it or hate it! I do understand that some people just love the crush of people, but, for our family it was completely overwhelming and we will never visit during Christmas week again.....on NYE at MK you will need to enter the park early A.M. and NOT leave because I guarantee it will be at capacity before 11:00 a.m. Epcot not sure about capacity but I am sure it will be a crush of people like you have never seen before. We'll be there mid December and gone before the crush arrives!

Right, if I were at BLT for Dec. 30th, I would head up to the TOWL to see the fireworks from there out of the crowds!

We're not staying at BLT, but will be at MK for the 30th. We've been there for the last 3 December 30th. We have found that most people stay even after the fireworks, so getting back to the BWV has not been a bad hasstle, and the one time I remember the time, we were back in our BWV by 12:40AM! Last year it was the most crowded, but still we got back to BWV at a reasonable time.

On the previous 3 NYE's we've done Epcot. The first time we didn't know better and stayed at Epcot from 5PM on. We had a 6PM ADR, and when we used the restrooms at the restaurant, we didn't realize that was the last time it would be easy. The crowds were crazy! At 8:30 or so, Epcot showed Illuminations "for people with children" and I think people did leave after that, but then the crowds really streamed in. DH and I watched the movies, Canada, France and China, 1-2 times each, sort of found a place to stay and did enjoy the fireworks that began around 11:40 with smaller celebrations of fireworks lit from each of the countries.

The next year, we didn't bother to enter Epcot until 11:15 or so, we spent the time enjoying the boardwalk activities. There was no problem getting into the International Gateway at that time, we walked over to the bridge, and watched from essentially the same place that we had the year before.

Last year we joined a group for an Illuminations cruise on NYE. It cost $100 pp, but worth it IMO!

This year, we're going to see the fireworks at DHS, so something we have no experience with. We have a fantasmic package, we'll go to the Osborne lights, we'll find a place and hope for the best. DS and one DGD went to DHS our second year and they had no trouble entering that park around 5....we'll see how this works out.

Because lots of people with children do leave after the first set of fireworks, I do think you have a chance to enter Epcot at a later time than many people mention. That has been my experience. We had listened to people our first year and have gone our way since then. Best wishes, enjoy the fireworks!!! I do, and that's why WDW is my choice of places to be on NYE!

I would do Epcot and then walk home to BWV or BCV. The bus lines and traffic after the big fireworks displays will cost you an hour in line trying to get out of a park.

If you are there on the 30th go to MK as they do the NYE fireworks that night too and go to EPCOT on NYE...but be prepared to take over an hour to get home...though not sure as you will be using the monorail...DON'T DRIVE, you'll be two hours getting home...

Not in our experience. We went to EPCOT and left just after the midnight Illuminations. It took a while to walk out of the park, but once we were out we had no wait for a bus. As one bus would fill another would take its place. It was handled very efficiently and we were back at OKW less than 30 minutes after walking out of the park. We did have to take the long way to OKW (toward MK and past Fort Wilderness) but it was still a quick trip.

I have enjoyed NYE at Epcot, a bit more adult oriented but both will be very busy.

We were at all the parks on the 4th of July and the crowds were completely insane for rides, food, etc... We ended up at Hollywood Studios... It was the only park where you could actually move. I think it depends on you tolerance for crowds... I agree with the crushing crowds...

When we went the wall of people was literally filled the entire walkway around the lake by 9pm. It was scary...they started putting blankets on the concrete around the lake by 5pm. At MK the year before we camped out at a table in front of Space Mountain next to the speedway at 9:30 and I stayed with my dad and the hubby and kids roamed tomorrowland. We did get stuck on the frontier bridge for 90 minutes during the parade...if there is a next time we will try the studios OR GF as it looks like they have a great NYE Party.

We will be there 12/26-1/2 this year. We have very low expectations. We don't expect to see much, just want to be there! We don't plan on going to a park on NYE. We have 7pm dinner reservations at Raglan Road. Then we plan on walking around DTD. We'll probably be back in our room at OKW well before midnight. We have little ones, and they can't handle lack of sleep. We plan on opening the parks, and being out by noon. Hoping it will be warm enough for some pool time in the afternoon.

We are going to Hollywood a studios again this year. Had a blast last New Years Eve with so much to do!!!

We have never been before either but are planning MK for the 30th and Epcot for NYE and will take on board the recommendation for a couple of fleec blankets to make it easier to manage!

This will be our first NYE in DHS. I know DS/DGD thought it was great when they were there 2 years ago. I'm glad you enjoy it so much!

We have a similar situation, Group size is 8, and ages are 17 through 51 and our waitlist for six nights just came through for BCV (we had reservations for VWL). For NYE we have dinner reservations at Biergarten in Epcot, so we will spend the evening there. If it gets too crowded then we'll exit to the Boardwalk area, as there is fun and entertaining stuff going on there too and there is room to roam. I think you'll have more options over at the Epcot area. Leave yourselves plenty of time to get around and pack your patience as the crowds are enormous. Have fun & enjoy!

Thanks to everyone who shared their own Disney experience on New Year's Eve. We will be arriving on December 30th, and although we have all our ADR's already booked for DHS on the 30th and MK on the 31st we may just see how things go based on your input.

I appreciate everyone's input!
