New Years Eve is CANCELLED in Champs-Elysses.

Due to continued violence, local officials in Paris have cancelled all concerts and events for the traditional Fete that typically runs on New Years Eve. The fireworks and lighting of the famed Eifel Tower at midnight will still occur, but it will be a made for TV event.

All the events are still on, except for the live grand concert. Something pre-recorded will take its place. Such a shame though.

The scariest public event I have ever attended as far as crowd control was Bastille Day. There was no crowd control. I was there with 1 million strangers.

When the show was over, 1 million people started walking to public transit, their cars, their hotels, etc.

There were no police keeping roads closed so there there 1 million people walking in the middle of the streets with the cars trying to drive.

It was crazy!

We were in Paris in 2023 on a layover to Venice, 7 hrs worth but it was Bastille Day. In hindsight instead of trying to use public transit and go closer into the Paris area we should have just gotten a taxi to a nearby town next to the airport.

It was neat to see some air service flyovers as part of it

But not worth the immense amount of people on the train system. The coffeeshop we went to was not crowded but the train stop near one of the main places that had events was. It probably had an impact though on keeping the airport customs sparse as getting in and back into the airport and going thru customs again was very easy.

We knew not to try and see the main monuments on such a busy day, wouldn't have been able to make it with that layover even as not short that seems it was.
