I am contemplating a trip to WDW for this New Years Eve. We usually go during regular season and stay at the Poly. I was checking out the prices for NYE and found that the moderates were really not a bad price. Our beloved Poly is $750/night, so that's out for this trip. I have booked a room at Riverside, there are 5 of us, so that is the only mod we can go to without getting 2 rooms. I am starting to worry that 1) I may really miss being at the Poly, and 2) the bus situation may be really ugly. Is it going to be a complete zoo, or is it enjoyable? We already have adr's scheduled and we are quite savvy at using the fastpass system, but I am a little worried about not being on the monorail. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

We actually stayed at POR on NYE once and went to DTD that night. It wasn't bad at all because we took the boat there. :) We've also done various parks on NYE, MK is always a zoo, the Studios aren't quite as bad, if you can go and just enjoy the fact that you are in WDW for a special night and not stress about actually riding rides you can have a good time. The good news is that crowds tend to die down right after New Years so going into the first week of January you won't have as many people. :)

I was there this past NYE; I was there 12/19-01/06.

I was in both Epcot and MK on NYE. It's a complete zoo. It was my 25th WDW vacation so I'm not a rookie. I've been Easter week and 4th of July week before. I thought I was prepared. I was not.

This past year it was still very crowded the first few days of January. I expect the same for 2013 due to the holiday following during the week-schools will probably be out that entire week like last year.

We stayed for Christmas and new years 2 years ago. It was crowded, but just as long as you are expecting it ,then its not bad . We were at Epcot for New Years Eve. Since its a bigger park the crowds are more spread out. Just get your fast passes early and and hit the areas that you may have never visited. Soarin had a 3 1/2 hr wait without fast pass. They were out of fast passes by 10:00am.
The buses are busy right after 12:00am. Just hang out for a little before going out.
That should make things less crazy.
I would go again during New Years.
Just enjoy and have fun .
