New Year's Eve Fireworks

We are going on NYE for the first time and are trying to decide where to watch the fireworks. We will be staying AKV Concierge(Can't wait).. Where would you recommend us to watch the firewords? OUr children will be 8,6.. We like to have a few drinks as well.

FYI - Magic Kingdom does their NYE fireworks on the 30th and the 31st. What we do is go to MK on the 30th, then go to DHS on the 31st.

Great idea... I didn't realize MK did this 2 nights. Are they both at midnight?

We have gone to WDW for NYE the last four years now and have next year already booked.

We really look forward to NYE at Disney. Its crowded, wait times are long, but we love all the decorations and special events. The NYE celebrations are so exciting to us, much better then anything we ever did at home.

Two years ago, we did MK fireworks on the 30th and DTD fireworks from SSR on the 31st.....lots of fun. But Disney canceled the DTD fireworks last year.

Watched the NYE fireworks from the Poly Beach (Dec 31, 2008) and then RAN to the monorail. The plan was to get to the MK gates and catch a bus to POFQ. Got off the monorail and couldn't get through the crowd exiting the MK (it was 12:07am) . Had to turn back and get on the monorail again. Got off at Contemp and took bus to DTD. BIG MISTAKE... we were on the bus over 1 hr.
Got back to POFQ at 2:30 in the morning..... won't do that again. Stay at BLT or VWL

Another great thing about the MK fireworks on the 30th, is that MK was opened extra late that night, and so not everyone was leaving after the fireworks. There were plenty of partys going strong. We were exhausted and left, and got on a bus...the bus to BWV was crowded, but we looked over and one from BCV/YC wasn't as bad, so we took it and walked from YC. We were back in our BWV before 12:30!:goodvibes

Did you see all the CMs and guests dancing the Electric Slide in front of the Christmas tree around 12:30-1 AM - it was really cool!

I'm sure it was...but no...we were gone by then. The crowd was definitely gathering by the Christmas tree...now I know why! It was such a thrill to be at WDW during this time, and we'll definitely try to stay up later the next time we go for NYE..December 2010!

We watched from EPCOT--fun but really crowded. We headed to the bus after we turned in our locker key and it only took us 30 minutes to get back to OKW. The bus went a different route to avoid all the cars-we were afraid it was going to be horrible but we were back in our room before 1 AM.

::whine:: Tom, if you tell everyone about the 30th fireworks then they'll ALL want to come. Don't you remember the madness of finding a CM-approved spot to watch them from? ::whine::

The BLT idea has me really thinking. We have a ressie for SSR, but I'm tempted to try and book one at BLT this Sunday. I was planning on banking this year's BLT points anyway so I'd have 120 for next year. A Lake View Studio will cost us 71 points (20 more than SSR and leaves us just enough for a 3-day stay next Fall).

This will be our 3rd and probably final year for NYE until 2012. The weekend points are just too high to justify a trip in future years. We'll switch to earl December instead.

For those driving, there is a back route from the Poly to OKW/SSR. Just head toward VWL and Fort Wildnerness. We've just ridden the busses for that trip but it seems the biggest traffic jam is on World Drive and EPCOT Center Drive to I-4. I'm not sure how AKV routes are. I imagine Buena Vista Drive (where Boardwalk and DTD are) is pretty packed too.

But I'm guessing DTD doesn't see nearly as much business now that they've closed the clubs. Shame that. The NYE fireworks at DTD were the best I'd ever seen on property. You got a full panoramic view of all DW's fireworks (the three parks and DTD). It looked like Disney was under siege.

We also did the MK fireworks on Dec. 30. We were back by Liberty Square and found it a great spot for both the parade and the FW. Then we took our time walking to the bus. Easy. On NYE we ended up watching MK and Epcot fireworks from our BW view balcony. We spent some time before midnight on the Village Green with the DJ. I just was NOT up to the sea of humanity at Epcot that night, especially with a 6 year old.
