In Times Square, New York City, they "drop" a ball at midnight on New Year's Eve.

In my area, many towns "drop" something at midnight. Do any other areas do this???

Harrisburg = a cow painted like a strawberry??
York = a white rose
Lancaster = a red rose
Dillsburg = a pickle
Hummelstown = a lollipop
Lebanon = a baloney
Red Lion = a cigar
Falmouth = a stuffed goat
Elizabethtown = a giant M&M candy

What do they drop in your area??

Not too far from you Doreen. I'm surprised that Reading dosn't drop a pretzel from the Pagoda. :crazy: Why in the world did H'burg change the strawberry to a cow?

A giant tortilla chip into salsa!
or maybe I just drempt that.............

Here in Atlanta, they drop a giant peach. :D

Kim

Here in NC they drop an acorn.

For Kris and anyone else wondering, Harrisburg always dropped a strawberry. This year, they are dropping a cow painted LIKE a strawberry, because the cows are coming to Harrisburg!

Have you seen the 6' Mickey Mouses painted by different celebrities at Disney World? I think Chicago had cows painted by celebrities. Well, apparently Harrisburg is going to do the same thing with cows - painted by celebrities - in 2004. Hence, they are dropping a cow painted like a strawberry. :confused:

Sounds odd to me!

Hey, Piglet's Pal, enjoy that pickle drop!!! :bounce:

Jackie, that idea with the tortilla chip in the salsa.....can I come?? Is the tortilla chip low-carb?? :p

Wilkes Barre, PA dropped a diamond for the past 4 years, but since the outgoing mayor needed to make one final example of his inability to manage money, they have none and won't be doing it this year. The incoming mayor has vowed to continue the tradition next year. (Sorry for the political commentary... I don't even live in Wilkes Barre.

In Scranton, they do first night and only fireworks... no dropping.

Dunmore used to drop a buck since that is the school's mascot.

Usually inhabitions, as the alcohol begins to kick in! :p

No "dropping" in the Philly area that I'm aware of, but the DA made a public speech yesterday telling everyone not to fire their guns at midnight or they will be arrested. :rolleyes:

I think I'd rather be living in a gentler part of PA for New Year's Eve. :teeth: I would love to see that strawberry cow. LOL! Is that silly or what! :teeth:

Wow!

Other than the "ball" I have never heard of anyone "dropping" anything on NYE...maybe I am just wayyyy out of the loop...usually am! ;)

In my old home town, Port Clinton Ohio, they drop a gaint fiberglass Walleye(it's a fish). In Key West they drop a Drag Queen in a large pink slipper. :p

Bwwwwwwhahahahaha!

In Key West they drop a Drag Queen in a large pink slipper

I just gotta spend New Year's Eve in Key West some year. :teeth:

Doreen....I LOVED the cows in Chicago! Was visiting my sister there at the time.....they were such fun!

Parrothead....Walleyed Pike.....yummmmmm, especially fresh caught!

I believe they drop a baby in New Orleans (and no Michael Jackson in sight! :eek: )

They supposedly drop a ball in Orlando. I haven't seen it.

Thanks DoeWDW. I caught the clip on WGAL and learned about the cow(s). I did see the story before, I just don't understand why they would pre-empt the usual strawberry in favor of a cow.:confused:
