I understand that fireworks are displayed twice in MK on New Years Eve. Can anyone confirm this. If so, what time? I am considering getting ADRs at the CG for dinner but I need to know what time to do it to see the fireworks. Thanks for your help!

You may not be able to get a regular ADR at California Grill on New Year's Eve. On that day they generally have a special party event that costs about $400 per person. Nothing's been announced for 2010 yet but they've had the party for years.

Edited to add a blurb for last year's event:
California Grill’s hosts a semi-formal dining event, which lasts from 8:00 p.m. until midnight on Dec. 31, that ushers in the new year. Highlights of the evening include special appearances by Mickey and Minnie. Menu items include chilled and hot appetizers, sushi, carved meats, and gourmet dishes. Prices include gratuity and tax. There will be an open bar throughout the event. Cost for this event, which includes tax and gratuity, is $450.

What I don't know is whether or not they shut down the whole restaurant for this, but I think they must.

Yes they do shut down the whole restaurant for NYE & yes it is very expensive. Your best bet would be to book a late dinner at CG for the night before because MK shows their NYE fireworks Fantasy in the Sky both the 30th & 31st. They start at just before midnight & it is really something to behold. They show Holiday Wishes earlier in the evening on both nights, but it is not at all the same as Fantasy in the Sky. This is a pic of the Dec. 30th Fantasy fireworks from TOTW at BLT, which gives a similar view.

Thank you both for your replies! In that case, what is the latest seating available on 12/30? I seem to remember that 10 pm was closing time. Do they seat right up to 10 and, if so, will we be rushed out prior to the midnight showing?

I wouldn't count on being able to linger in the restaurant until midnight. Although with fireworks scheduled, there may be others who have the same idea.

On a regular night with no fireworks, I'd forget about staying till midnight.

I know for a fact that they allow you to stay till midnight that night if you have a late seating. We actually had reservations at about 9:30 on Dec. 30th but didn't get seated until almost 10 & the meals there are very leisurely & typically take about 2 hours especially if having dessert. We decided not to stay for the midnight fireworks but instead went over to TOWL since we were staying at BLT, but CG was still crowded just before midnight & many people were over at the observation deck because we could see them from BLT. If you decide to eat earlier, you can bring your receipt back & they will let you out on the deck.

rainman, I am a little late but did you make ADR at CG on NYE. I know it's a special dinner at 500.00 pp. I tried t book it until I heard the price.
