My girlfriend and I are going to WDW the last week in October and we thought it would be cool to take a trip back for a few days over New Years Eve. Im not familiar with this time of year at Disney. What are the crowds like? How soon should you suggest booking a room? Also, are you able to get into the Magic Kingdom on New years Eve? Are the rates more expensive that week???

Thanks for the help!

That is a very crowded time of year. It is perhaps the most crowded time of year. I would think you should book as soon as possible if you want your choice of accomodations.

To give you an example of the crowds, my DD and I went to Epcot last New Years Eve for dinner at the Japan Pavillion. When we came out, we could barely walk because there were so many people there. To make things worse, they had passed out hats and horns to a lot of the people. People were blowing them non-stop everywhere. This was at 10pm. I thought my hearing would be gone before I got out of there. We left and went home and watched the fireworks over the MK from our house.

I was in Epcot this past New Year's Eve. Yes, it was crowded. Actually it seemed to get more crowded as the night went on. However, I had an absolute blast. We had dinner at Le Cellier (yum)! There were traffic jams of people, but I attribute that to people waiting in line for a hat and horn, or just a swarm of people watching a performance (like the Mariachi Band in Mexico). Bathroom lines were long. Other than that, the crowds were pretty spread out in my opinion. Once it got dark, there were bands and/or djs in several of the countries. It was probably the best New Year's I have ever had. Unless you absolutely cannot handle crowds, I wouldn't let it scare you off. I don't know what the Magic Kingdom is like because I did not go there on NYE, but I assume it is packed as well. I'd make room reservations as soon as possible. Go and have fun! I would go again in a heartbeat. :earsboy:

Other than being very lucky, I guess you can have a New Year's Eve party everyday of the year, or 4th of July, or any celebration for that matter!

I can see it now, hey come over to my house for a birthday party and as a special treat I asked Disney to do a fireworks display in your honor! Love Ya!

Oh to be so lucky.

By the way, love what you are doing for the families! God Bless you!

Oh yea, to the OP, this is indeed one of the most crowded days of the year. However, that doesn't mean that you can't go and enjoy yourself. If you go with the midset that we are going to celebrate New Year's Eve and not going to ride a bunch of rides and then celebrate, know what I mean. Not too many people who have this type of oppurtunity. If you can go, then I would say go for it!

I agree completely!! We went a few years back and they had set up dance floors and DJ booths throughout EPCOT and in many of the countries. Cocktails and champagne were flowing and the crowds were large, but the atmosphere was fun!. We had an absolute blast. If you're up for a great party, do not hesitate! Large, festive crowds in a serious party atmosphere aren't for everyone, but if it sounds like something you might like, do it!!
