New Year In Disney???

Hi

Has anyone been to Disney for the New Year break.

We can not decide wether to go in November or December. We usually book the accomodation and flights seperate as we have found it cheaper to stay in Disney this way. The accomodation is available at the moment and there are flights at the moment. We usually book them 14 nights in advance so we get the flights for cheap, because it is New Year has anyone had any booking problems?

What is the weather like and the crowds at that time. Does Disney make it worth the trip for New Years Eve?

The themeing etc is fantastic BUT the crowds make it extremely unpleasant. We spent Christmas and New Year there and on NYE it was impossible to get into any park after 9am, we felt it was positively dangerous, queues were topping 2-3 hours so we stayed in the POFQ for the midnight celebration which were busy but very good.
Weather is a bit hit or miss, you can get sunny days in the 80's or frosty days hovering around zero....if you go pack for every eventuality including hats and gloves.

We have been for Christmas and New Year 5 times. I would never attempt magic Kingdom. We went for Christmas Day, had lunch at Cinderella's Royal Table and then left because it was soooo busy.

We have been to Epcot for the last 2 years for NYE and although very busy, I think one of the best places to be is the World Showcase. We stayed to see the New Year in at the UK pavillion and the first fireworks and then left as we thought trying to get out at midnight would be horrendous. It is such a great atmosphere and because the weather was so lovely, lots of people lay down to snooze around the lagoon.

We only go at this time of year now. However we don't go to the parks. NYE days is mooching or shopping as I like to call it and NYE pm we party at Pleasure Island.

We've been once over NY, but missed Christmas. The Christmas decorations and parades are still running until after NY so the atmosphere is still there - I think Disney definitely make it worthwhile, despite the crowds.

I would be concerned about leaving flights to the last minute. I've never tried this even at quiet times, so maybe I'm being over cautious, but I seem to remember we booked around 9 months out and didn't have a lot of choice on direct routes.

We spent NYE in EPCOT - brilliant! Packed, but brilliant We got the short straw with the weather, with it getting colder throughout the week we were there, and ending with frost on a couple of days. We managed to survive shorts for the first couple of hours on our first day but, after that, we just added an extra layer every day!

Last year I tried for Xmas / New Year flights in November. Travel City had availability on their Jumbo for Dec 20th at £720 PER PERSON and no reduction for kids!! BA also had 4 seats left on the 21st at £735 for adults and £599 for the kids. Virgin had NO availability at all. It was only a last minute idea to go, but the prices were terrible, so we didnt bother. I have recently booked for this Xmas and Virgin were fast running out of suitable flights. I got the last seats on our homebound flight.

If you are serious about going for New Year, then unless you are prepared to fly indirect, you would need to start looking soon.
