New Yavn Speaks 4/1 - Yes it's real this time ;)

Sounds like they really had a problem with the spoilers posted. My question is why? Does anyone here think they were that tough? There might have been a few tricky ones but I've seen much tougher ones in the past. I think the main problem lies with the pirate part (The infamous question 16). If you want to make a task that tough why choose pirates? You think in a straight up game involving eight other players all looking to advance, someone had a realistic chance?

It was meant to be challenging, but even if they make spoilers against the values.. it will STILL appear somewhere else, it's a war they will never win

I got a couple of things from the newsletter.

1. Whoever is writing for "yavn" needs a publicist. Or someone with a modicum of Public Relations skillz.
2. In order to punish the guilty parties that cheated with hacking or other programming cheats, those who were not cheating were penalized. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water, VMK.

I guess they are willing to risk alienating lots of people with the tone of the newsletter, but my guess is that they must be REALLY frustrated with something behind-the-scenes to verbally slap us like this.

Let me kind of explain a couple of things that Yavn said in his double speak.

When he was talking about script modifiers, he meant it. It is not a "macro" he was talking about but people who have actually downloaded and modified the VMK script as it appears on your computer and then run an update while VMK is open on the server they are using. Not too too difficult for someone who knows shockwave.

When he was talking about "we know who you are" he means that they really have no clue and will never find out. These are people who use masking server, and they have been on VMK a long long while, how else do you think people get those sick scores in JC? Certainly not on their own. The wrote a little program which auto clicks the animal as it appears and then loaded it into the script.

as far as "do it in only 3 days" like someone mentioned, they probably had the program done by Saturday afternoon but just waited to launch it. The hardest part is configuring the masking servers and fake accounts.

But this has been a problem VMK chose to ignore for a very long time, and NOW they are going to have this guy who thinks he is out father come on and tell us all we were wrong? Vintage Yavn overkill. This is not like the first, or even second or third time he has acted like a spoiled child who did not get his way, and then treated everyone as if he were our lord and master.

I kind of feel insulted by this statement in regards to the Jungle Cruise part of it. I know that there are people that may use scripts or other programs to get on the High Scores of Jungle Cruise, but there are players out there as well that really are good at the game. I dont think you should be speaking upon everyone on this as some people truly can do great at the game in the correct way.

Agreed. I doubt LDE uses a macro

the above post from DisneyChick74 was from me...

My wife needs to LOG OUT of Dis when she gets off my computer.

So players didn't follow the rules, cheated to win, so VMK punishes those of us NOT finished and still trying.

You KNOW who they are, but WE get punished.

Yeah, we're in the Twilight Zone.

It just makes me sick. I was so close to finishing the quest and vmk just has to close it because of some cheaters.

I am sure there are a few... and I stress a FEW who can get 60-62k on JC, but I have seen 66k, 67k.. and frankly, from playing the game and being pretty darn good myself, I would have to say that those scores are nearly impossible within the realm of human and personal computer limitations.

i do not belive I mentioned any names here.

but let me ask you this, do you know her in real life?

I don't.

Matter of fact is that I do not know any of you in real life and therefore, each and every one of you could be a hacker, or only 6 years old for all I know, regardless of what gets posted here. I would not presume to infer that anyone is either one of those, but I also leave open the possibility that you, or other, or even the almight LDE could possibly be a six year old... or a hacker.

I got home from school, and got 80 on mansion excluding the times I untagged my opponent. Much to my surprise, I did not pass. I checked my messages and BAM! I bet there are 100s of kids out there crying now...

Also, to see if I could do it, I played JC and got 50000...

He sounded a little mad about it, but he didnt have to get screwed over by friends, wait in HUGE lines, and in the end have the quest cancelled right in the middle of the day when some are almost done

My thoughts exactly. If I hadn't been trying to help out teammates like VMK was happy to see, I would have finished the quest. I got the Jungle Cruise score...at 12:03. So what do I learn from this? It's better to "cheat" because the cheaters at least got their stuff? That I shouldn't keep my word and be part of a team and help people out? That other people cheating makes good people suffer? I guess I missed the lesson...

That was my greatest fear saturday night. I could have finished but chose instead to help my friend briar right up to closing. But so dreaded thinking they would reset the quest.

At least that is one mistake they never did again for now. And yes I read the whole Blackheart story so with or with the cheats I would have finished he quest. I still really enjoy that story :thumbsup2

Now lets say if they had made pirate 400 then we would not have spent 3 days trying and trying to get our friends through and thus have more time to really enjoy the full quest experience.

That I would say was the major issue in this quest I really believe they can not have it both ways.
Finishing a quest in 60 hours + is in no way cheating:goodvibes

I definitely have to agree with this. The tasks alone were worthy of anyone who has taken the time that we do to play the game. However, when you put such an impossible high score for most on a server that doesn't handle crowds well, yeah it takes away from the rest of the tasks and time needed.
When people posted the answers here they just took the load off of everyone in my opinion.;)
And I certainly don't equate having the answers here in white out with ppl hacking the game through programs. Lol After all someone actually went through the game to get those answers.:) And, yes I was one of those who read the story and wrote down the high points of it just in case.;)
But, since I took so long on the pirates task :lmao: I certainly didn't have time to work out those clues to figure out the answers afterwards. Believe me, most of my time was like tigger's - helping others to get through! I could have begged Pink or Aengus the first two days for help, but chose to do it with others first.
Of course in hind sight now I wish I had. I could have spent more time teaching others how the play more effectively!:rotfl2:

I have never been so insulted. I spent over 75 hours working on the quest. We got many through pirates and they finished the quest. I was not one of them. I was close to finishing pirates when the quest ended. As teams we were all trying very hard to help others. All our teams were formed within VMK from friends lists and meeting new wonderful friends who were willing to help. Thanks alot Yavn for punishing me for being a hard worker and good friend. Thanks for the lost credits, headaches, tears and fatigue. If you honestly knew who was cheating why didn't you just stop them instead of punishing all of us????? To all of you who I played with, thank you all so much for your help and support. Your friendship means much much more than any virtual prize. If it weren't for you I would have quit the quest days ago. Yavn you can take away the quest but you can't take away the joy of being with friends gave me. In the end I am still a winner quest or no quest!!

Stay right here, I'll be right back.

He said that is he writing more tonight?

He said that is he writing more tonight?

No he usually says stuff like that in the newsletter to be goofy I guess. He
means he'll be right back in about 3 weeks.. Kinda like when he says flying
carpet is coming out "soon" it's never out even after 2 1/2 years.

Anyways, I'm really surprised that half of the newsletter was yelling at us
for cheating. What the heck? Okay Yavn, YOU get 575 on ship battle when
playing the game the way it's supposed to be played. And you're going
to close the quest earlier just because people are using programs and posting
spoilers and playing games they aren't going to be played. That's what ya'
get for making a quest this hard and this BAD. It's not our player's fault,
you have to understand, it's VMK'S FAULT!

Anyways, I'm excited for that new room and unreleased magic definitely!
As long as we don't have to play a ridiculous quest to get them!!

I would like to meet the VMK staff that tested the quest before it was released. I'd like to know they did not have any more freedom ( insider tricks etc) then we did. I'd like to know who with and how they got 575 points in Pirates. I'd like to know how many people were also playing and attempting to do the same thing while they were " testing" this quest. I want to know how many tears of frustration they shed, how many hurt feelings they had to deal with and overcome and how many hours of sleep they missed.

To me the infamous #16 task was like looking through a haystack with 40 other people trying to find and thread a 1 inch needle with a 5 inch piece of yellow thread while wearing boxing gloves.

Well said! And, I didn't know you were avastmaygirl, mom2cookies! I don't always put a DIS name with a VMK title. It was nice meeting you this weak.end :goodvibes
