After a sidetrip to visit family for Christmas, we have returned from our first-ever visit to WL. We were there Dec 18 - 24.
We absolutely fell in love with Wilderness Lodge from the moment we walked through the door. Seeing that lobby for the first time is amazing. Our CM at check-in was Steve, and he was very friendly and helpful. We had booked a standard view room but were upgraded to a woodsview (I had decided not to fax a room request and just depend on Disney magic). We were assigned room 6012. We had bunkbeds, and my guys just loved them. This room overlooks the otter pond to the left, the lake to the right and MK straight ahead. We could see the monorails going by, and the castle in the distance. We could just make out the castle through the trees during the day, but at night we had a clear view. We sat on our balcony each night and watched the castle change colors. We also had a perfect view of the MK fireworks. The special Christmas fireworks were breathtaking, and they were framed so perfectly in the view from our balcony, it looked like they were just for us! For future visits, I plan to book a woodview room and request one as close to this one as possible.
The housekeeping was wonderful, our room was always spotless. And every CM that I met was friendly and helpful.
We got refillable mugs and used them a lot! Every morning we got coffee (the coffee is about the only thing I think WL needs to improve) and hot chocolate. We ate dinner at Roaring Forks 4 out of 6 evenings, since we weren't staying in the parks late. The food there was surprisingly good for counter service. The elevator to our room was very near Roaring Forks, making it very convenient.
We only had one problem with transportation the whole time. One morning we had to wait 25 minutes for a bus to Epcot, but we heard that a bus had broke down, causing delays. Other than that, we never waited more than 10 minutes for buses or boats, and it was usually 5 minutes or less.
My only complaints about WL were the coffee and the laundry. It costs $2 to wash a load of laundry and $1 for 15 minutes in the dryer. It took 3 cycles to get one fairly small load dry, and even then hems and pockets were still damp. So I spent $10 to do 2 small loads, and still had to hang clothes in the room to finish drying. Next time, I plan to pack enough clothes not to do laundry!
This resort is breathtaking, and has to be the most welcoming place I've ever stayed. We felt at home right away. We're already planning our next visit to WL for next December, and I don't think we'll ever stay anywhere else!
If anyone has any questions about WL, I'll try my best to answer them.
