New way to save @ Walmart!!

Just found this out as I was at the register at my local Walmart (in Alabama): the cashier told me they've started accepting B1G1 ads!! I've been comparison shopping ever since they started this, and it's a very recent change in policy. I definitely would've had more store ads if I would've known this!! I'm not sure if it's company-wide, or if it's just my local store doing this, but it's worth it to check!! Hope this helps!!

i'm in alabama too, i'll have to ask at my wal-mart about the BOGO thing. they told me a year or so ago that they don't match BOGO ads.

This is great. We have Publix which runs BOGO items just about every week. I will have to try this out next time I run to the store.

I read an article recently where they were saying that they were going to have to start price matching to get back to being more popular than Target. They also said they were bringing back popular items that have disappeared from the shelves in the last couple of years.

I have also seen some commercials about price matching, but nothing about BOGO sales.

Personally, Walmart can't do anything to entice me back to their stores.

Does this mean that if Walmart has cereal for 2.99 and a competitor has it for 3.99 but buy one get one, then Walmart will charge you 3.99 for the two boxes. Then they are matching the price?

As a PP asked, if Walmart had cereal for $2.99 a box and the competitor has it for $3.99 BOGO, the cashier should ring the first box as $3.98 and the second box as $.01, to meet the price of the competitor. I am a supervisor at Walmart--those are the exact instructions we were given.

It has only been a couple of months that we have been matching BOGO offers--we never did before that.

But, what I love about Publix is you don't have to buy that second item, you can get just 1 for half the price and we don't always need 2 of a particular item. I bet Walmart won't do that!

You're absolutely right...Walmart would not let you do that. You would HAVE to buy both items.

How does walmart define their "trade" area? That always seems to be an issue around here, which is fine, I'll just skip walmart altogether then.

I went to buy TurboTax....Walmart online list price $44.88, in store price was $56. The sales lady called manager and they matched their own website prices.....which you would think would be a no-brainer?!?!

She told me while price matching other stores that they are now matching the B1G1. She was just as excited as I was. She said if I had any problems I could bring my stuff to electronics and she'd ring them up.

Again, as I posted before, that with stores limiting their selections on items it does make it harder to match if they are not carrying the items.

One way to get around this is to use Walmart's Site-to-Store program, where you can order items online and have them shipped to your walmart for free. That's what I did with the books I bought the kids for Easter. They were about 25% cheaper online than in-store!

It depends on your Publix. I'm in South Carolina and my Publix is like yours, you are allowed to purchase one item at 1/2 price. My mom, on the other hand, is in Florida and her Publix makes you buy the first item at full price and you get the second item free. They do not allow purchasing one item at 1/2 price.

I'm sure you're right that WalMart will not allow you to purchase one item at 1/2 price. I normally will go ahead and get two of whatever the item is anyway so this would be somewhat of a convenience if I wanted to shop WalMart and not make another trip to a regular grocery store too.

Really, wow, I didn't know that, all of the ones here in town (AL & GA), allow it and there are 4 Publix between the Bi-state area.

I'm just glad DH went back in the Army Reserves, so I can now shop at the Commissary, where most, if not all of what I buy is about half the price of Walmart and any other grocery store and I have access to more coupons and more items available for the coupons that I clip.

We have been in Walmart maybe once since Dec and I plan to keep it that way.

I agree!! We don't have a Publix, but we do have Food Lion and ours does the same thing. They will allow you to buy just 1 for 1/2 price.

But... why would you want to do that instead of just going to Publix in the first place?

First let me start by saying I am not a Walmart shopper. but maybe they have other things to get at Walmart and can combine it into one shopping trip. Or they are price matching from more than one store. Right now with the price of gas, if Walmart were closer than the Publix, I could completely understand why someone would choose to do this. There are good reasons why someone might choose to do this rather than go to the other store. And maybe the other store was out of the item and you need it now rather than next week (with a raincheck)... Just a few ideas of why.

Also a WalMart superviser here, although not over the front end, I can say that this is not quite true as we cannot charge more for the one item. If our price was 2.99, we could not charge 3.98 for the first one. As I understand it, we would take one (was 2.99) and override it to 2.98, and the second for .01, or any combination that equals the buy one get one free. Or it may be that they do one at reg. price, 2.99, and second at 1.00 to equal the 3.99. We only do bOGO if a price is shown in the ad.
The changes on ad matching have had many of us confused!
