New way to help pay my DVC MF's!! Chase Disney rewards for DEBIT card purchases!!

For the other reward debit cards that Chase offers, only those transactions that are processed as credit transactions count towards the rewards offered.

I have had several rewards accounts with Chase and they all require you to post the transactions as credits, not debits for the rewards to accumulate; I would assume this card would be the same. I've also been told (don't know how reliable the source is/was) that the reason they offer rewards for credit purchases with a debit card, is that the charges are run through a completely separate (2nd party) system that gives the bank credit some how or another.

I'm fairly certain the charges need to be done as credit NOT debit, which would allow for those of us who pay our bills with a credit card to accumulate rewards. Just my .02

Also, just a reminder for those who keep tabulating the cost of making up the $25 annual fee, you get $25 in Disney dollars after your first 5 charges or your first direct deposit (basic account only). So in essence, you get your annual fee back in Disney dollars, so there is nothing to accumulate at least for year one.

I also pay all our bills with our debit card and post the transation as credit to get the rewards (all bills I can anyway) as well as run all business expenses I can, so I would more than recoup the annual fee the first month and then watch it grow through the rest of the year.

For those who don't use the card in the same way I and others who have posted here do, it could take months and months to earn a dollar here or there and is definitely not worth it. Good thing they have hundreds or thousands of different cards with different reward programs. This one is definitely for us! Different strokes for different folks!

If the debit card needs to post as a credit to get any rewards but you still only get half as many rewards as with the credit card, why would you pay any fee for the debit card instead of getting the free credit card?

The only possible reason I could see is if you have the problem of a PP that they exceed the 750 rewards $$ per year maximimum, and even then, I would probably just switch some spending to a cash back credit card as long as cash is also an acceptable payment for MFs! -- Suzanne

Basically, the amount we could spend is limited with the CC. On top of that, we are trying to eliminate all CC debt/usage. Having a self-employed DH, using the card and paying it off every month got a little crazy and not always feasible. On top of that, for the really big purchases (those over our $20K limit) the purchases would not go through.

There are MANY many reasons we've chosen to stop using credit cards, but I have kept and used my Disney Visa just for the rewards. I will now be able to "free" myself from using credit cards at all which is great for us. Of course, when I choose, I can still use the Disney Visa and get more rewards quicker, but I'd rather use the debit card, even though accumulating slower; that's just my preference and what works best for us.

With the $25 Disney $ you get after the 5 transactions I figured it is worth a shot...can always cancel in a year if it doesn't pan out. With this card you get many of the same discounts as you would with the Disney Visa which is a bonus :) I don't have to worry about credit because I am only spending what I already have. We go to DL a few times a year, so the vacations alone will add up our rewards. My credit got ugly about 9 years ago and I have been unable to get approved for a Disney Visa, having this as an option and not spending on credit makes me much happier! I run most transactions as credit and not debit as is...so no changes there!

Just my thoughts! :cheer2:

My partner works for Chase at the Disney Visa call center and called about getting one. We will only get it if they waive the $25 annual fee for Chase employees.

:goodvibes
I dont think you would get credit for using your checking account to pay bills. That is BillPay not a debit card purchase. I believe the merchant would have to swipe your card when you pay the bill in order for it to be a qualifying purchase.

Also, Debit and Credit are different kinds of transactions. A debit card purchase requires you to enter your Pin # at the time of purchase. Debit purchases have different rules of coverage and benefits than Visa/MC purchases. I believe the fee structure is different also and may be why Chase is encouraging its customers to use debits instead of credits.
yeah pretty much I clear on the difference with paying bills using debit and credit...and still I pay all of my bills using my debit card not using bill pay ever...I don't really ever use the banking bill pay system...

I don't think the card has a max amount anymore...but at the same I know for sure I wont even make it that far:scared1:

:goodvibes I opened an account on August 12th and they are giving $25 DRD after you use the card 5 times...so as far as I am concerned the car is free for the first year...and I will see how it goes...

They won't waive the annual fee for Chase employees so I don't know if we will get one or not.

As a PP posted, why not get it for the first year (the $25 fee is returned in reward dollars) and see how it works. If you don't like it, switch back with a phone call before then end of the first year. There is really no risk involved by giving it a try IMHO. Surprised they don't waive the fee for Chase employees though..that's just wrong!

To the OP-Do you have a link to where I can find this info? I tried looking online at Chase's website, but wasn't able to find anything. It could be that I'm not looking in the right place.
Thanks for posting!

Seems that some people were thinking that this was rewards when using it AS a debit card.

However, the wording on the site is "Every non-PIN purchase you make with the card leads to Disney Rewards"... So it's credit-like purchases, NOT debit-like.

Which, I believe, is the same way that rewards are gathered on their regular rewards stuff.

A few months ago I needed them to replace my wamu card, as the card was entirely demagnetized.

During the re-order transaction (which the employee messed up), she first try to sell me on the "pay $25/year and you get 4 points per dollar spent" card. I said no. Then she said, well, the normal card gets 1 point per dollar, just sign up at chase.com/extras. Pretty funny, I thought.

However, she didn't say it would be good for Disney stuff...

And since our credit union credit card charges $25/year to be part of their rewards program, honestly, paying this for a debit (or "check card" as they used to call the ones with the Visa/MC logo) card, which we use FAR more often, would make much more sense than the CC.

We're dumping the rewards option from the CC (this year we've just about accumulated enough for a $50 giftcard redemptoin, but that spending pattern is ending now), and this might be an interesting option, though it means we'll have to continue with our Chase account. Of course, we have a car loan through Chase, so that would probably be a good idea until it's gone anyway...

I was going to come in and say "paying from your checking account" does NOT necessarily mean using BillPay, but I see the poster you were talking to already said that. Paying "from" a checking account just means the money comes from checking...there are all sorts of ways that can happen.

And since the info on the site mentions that it's for non-PIN purchases, even the payments when you just use the debit card without the PIN will work.

We have the Chase Disney Visa but we went ahead and switched our debit cards over to this as well. I'll pay $25 to get $200 in rewards. I was part of the visa extras program for free but I have 7,000 points (meaning I put $7,000 on my debit card) from the last 3 months and was only able to cash out for a $10 Target gift card. If I'm figuring this right that same $7,000 would have gotten me $35 Disney reward dollars - a better deal for me. And the $25 fee is waved the first year after making 5 purchases.

We use our debit card for EVERYTHING..never carry cash. And we always use it as a credit purchase (we had to in order to get the Visa Extras points).

Between this and my regular Disney Visa we should have a pretty good amount of reward dollars sacked away every time we go!

We are in California and made the bank change to Chase for this. Although in California it is still technically WAMU until October 23 when the WAMU accounts will be ported over to the Chase system. Then we can call into the call center and ask for the Disney Debit Card.

We too have the Chase Disney Visa and this is just an added bonus for us in case we don't want to use credit.

Do you have to have a branch near you to set up an account? If the paycheck is going in by direct deposit and there's money in the account does it matter where you are?

I would think that if you have a Chase checking account, you should be able to get the Disney Rewards Debit Card. Just call Chase at 800 CHASE24 to apply.

 I'm excited about this for two reasons...

1 - I'm a bank of america customer & they just closed my nearest branch- which is a hassel!

2 - I'm a Dave Ramsey girl! No more credit cards for me. Yes, you read that right. I'm starting Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University in Oct & the first thing I have (want) to do is get rid of my CCs. Now that they have a rewards debit card I won't feel so bad to get rid of the cc- that was the only thing that had me a little hesitant, all those reward dollars.
